My puppy is 7 months old. Shes got most of the training commands down, like potty training and such. the only problem I'm having is getting her to listen when she's off leash, like in the dog park or in the back yard. Eventually she will come, its just getting her attention that's the hard part.... Its almost like she's ignoring me.... Ive tried the hole, only call her once and then make her do what you want, but it doesn't seem to be working.....

The easiest way to get any dog (but especially huskies!) to do what you want, is to have something they want. BAD. For Keeonah, it's food. I can use her kibble for training lol, she doesn't care.

Anyways, once you kind of key in on what motivates your pup the most, the rest is fairly easy. It can be food, toys, play time, and maybe if you are really lucky, belly rubs lol.

Every day for a week, every time I let Keeonah out back to go potty, i would first grab a few treats or kibble, and keep them hidden from her. I sent her out like normal, and once she was finishing up and started to wander, I would give her recall command ("come" for most trainers). When she got to me, big praise and her treats. She liked that:). So every potty trip for a week, I would work on her recall that way. Now, unless we are playing out back, I will send her out to potty, she will go 1, 2 or both and come right back in. Same idea at the dog park. Eventually, the dog is conditioned to know it gets yummy treats if it comes when called. Keeonah's recall is at about 90% now, and I don't used treats anymore, she just knows it's what she's supposed to do.

I started off leash training on a 30ft leash. This way i could gently give a tug to get him to come and reward for it. Because off he leash I couldn't get him to do squat initally, lol. I even took him to the dog park on rainy days and at a time when no one was there to do the same training with the 30 ft lead to help him generalize, then I took the lead off and did it witout. I used the empty park as a training opportunity since there wasn't the distraction of other dogs. His recall is pretty good......for a husky It's not fool proof, but it's better than I expected.

I have the same problem, Loki doesn't come when off leash. He thinks its a game, he will come to you but when u reach for him he takes off again, even with treats sometimes. I know hes only 4 months but hes mastered sit, stay, come(when in house only), shake a paw, down, all no problem.

maybe it's a mal or just a Maggie thing but at the dog park. only place I let her off leash. I say let's go and she follows me. it takes a lot of training to get them to do that. I have only seen a few others able to do that

Lucian's recall can be pretty bad sometimes. He'll look right at you, then go back to what he was doing. Unless he knew you had treats in your hand. He's been doing rather well the past few days with coming in the house. But I know if I took him to the dog park, I'd be SOL.

Kerian will come at the dog park most times when you tell let's go.

Blaze is a different story he is not very good about coming..

We have been taking high value treats with us and letting him know they are in the car sometimes if they are sealed in plastic we tuck them in our pocket and let him know we have them. He will come most of the time with the high value treats.

I don't know if it helps at all but I treat Storm with the theory that I EXPECT her to come when she's called. She's my third husky and my first ran riot over me.

Neither of our dogs are treat trained, they're pressure trained on the collar and will respond to most commands with just hand signals. At the park she's usually pretty good, I just call Storm and as soon as her head comes up and she looks at me, I say come. Usually that's all it takes, especially if we're leaving I just call them and turn and walk away... if they don't want to be left behind they'll come! (She refused to come once so I took our other dog, Rock, all the way out of the park and to the car, then went back for her) She's never ignored me again! The big thing I find is that they don't want to be left without their pack.... chasing never helped me, but ignoring her did!
