here is a video of some of the stuff i've been training Maya to do. Maya is the first dog i've trained to do anything and i've started with sit about 2 weeks ago and added down, shake and other paw since then, so i think she is doing really well with it. I've since added shake and she always would do a different paw each time i've told her to shake, so i decided to add in the other paw command. she still gets confused but she is getting there, i added the other paw command thursday i believe, also it usually takes a few times to say sit until she actually does it. i also made this video shortly after i wrestled with her so she was a little round up Smile i've also started teaching her to lay down also....

She is around 10 weeks out and i've had her since se was 6 weeks old. when doing these commands i had no treats in my hand.

i also have a husky mix that i'm training to sit, shake and to lay down. she knew in (as in go in her crate) since i rescued her from the pound. i also ask her for a hug and she will stand on her back two legs and give a "hug" and up means to jump up into my arms.

hope you enjoy it and any tips you can give me that i may be doing wrong or what i could do better would be great since i'm new to training dogs Smile

I enjoyed watching that. Maya is so clever (and sooo cute!). I like the way you've done 'shake' and 'other paw'. It's neat.

One thing I always find hard is not repeating commands, but just saying it once and then waiting til they do it. Otherwise you can train them to expect to hear it twice every time.

I love the way you keep her interested throughout, really well done. Especially since you had already faded out the treats for this.

I am really impressed! Well done. I love the idea of your hug command, I think I will have to copy that and teach it to my two!!

You make it look so effortlessly. Great vid.

Been trying since 6am (currently 12:45) and can't even get the slightest movement from the video on the thread I created. I tried grabbing her paw at sit position while saying the command and Meeka keeps going to "down" command.

Practice, Practice, Practice. We will both get it eventually. Smile

thank you all.

Ghost yea it's hard not to keep telling her to sit but she is a little ADD i think haha. thanks for the tip about not saying it more than once. i'm learning, along with the dogs, on how to train dogs, also thank you for the compliment on Maya

still working on down as neither Zoë or Maya will do it without having a treat in my hand. i think that one time in that video was the only time Maya has one it without having a treat in my hand.

since this video i have added high five to the list of stuff Maya will do, but her version of high five is she will touch your hand with her nose.

i'm also training them when walking on a leash if i stop that they need to sit. here is the strange thing about them sitting when we stop: Zoë will sit on command in the house as soon as you tell her to and it takes awhile for Maya to do it. on walks Maya is starting to sit on her own or will sit most of the time right away when i say sit. Zoë on the other hand will hardly ever sit on command or on her own and the only time she usually will sit is if she sees the treat

she will get there just remember don't over do the training session and give her some breaks. i think i read somewhere that you shouldn't train for longer than 10 minutes at a time, but i could be wrong. just keep working with her a little each day and soon you can add more commands. also i think it's good to only teach her one trick at a time and keep practicing it until she has it down and then add a new trick. if the trick is to shake always make her sit first and then shake and so on. now that i added the high five i still make her sit, shake, other paw and then high five before she gets the treat

don't feel bad when i tell Maya down she shakes Smile

i will do another video with the high five here soon

Those videos are awesome! I love Zoe's jump at the end.

Don't worry if they won't do 'down' without a treat yet. It takes practice for them to get it so it can take longer than we expect. You can still fade the treats out, just don't do it too fast. Also it's harder for them if there are distractions, so for example 'sit' outside is harder than inside.

It looks like you, Zoe and Maya are having a lot of fun! In the second video I love the way Zoe sits there and watches, looking happy all the time. They are both great dogs!!

I agree with phasing out the treats. I have to learn to phase out the hand signals
