| New to the boards Hi All Currently, we don't have any dogs, we have three year old cat though Just came here to talk about the wonderful breed, and of course learn more about the breed. Where thinking of adding A dog to our family this summer, I will keep you update to whats happening. Where are leaning more towards small herding breeds, but where also looking into the husky(I would LOVE to dog sledding & agility). Thanks for reading! |

| Kale and I welcome you from California Read the stickys, the threads at the beginning of each section They have a lot of information about finding reputable breeders and will help a lot with your research. Or adopting is always a great idea, so many in shelters waiting for forever homes. Kudos for being responsible and doing research before taking the plunge! |

Hello and welcome! I think it is great that you are in no rush. You have two great choices picked out - quite different, too. I have a Husky and German Shorthair Pointer now, but I grew up with 3 Shelties: Ginger, Nutmeg, & Sage. My mom loves the breed. Nutmeg (pictured below) actually moved in with me until I got Timber. He is a great dog - but at age 10 couldn't handle a playful husky. He is much happier back with the other two Shelties. When I think of the two breeds - they both are beautiful, loving, get along with other dogs/kids, & playful. Differences: size (15- 25lbs vs. 50-60lbs) energy (huskies need much more - I love to hike/bike - so Timber is perfect for that) off leash (shelties stick around off leash, but with Timber - can't trust because she runs away) on leash (shelties are easy to walk, Timber naturally wants to pull) shedding (both shed, but Timber sheds much more) noise level (from my experience shelties are yappers, which can get annoying) I have more experience with Shetland Sheepdogs, but I've always loved Huskies. Timber is only a year old, therefore I am still learning the breed. She is a wonderful dog - takes much more energy to care for, but I wouldn't trade it for anything! I think either choice you make will make you happy! |

Your Sheltie, is beautiful, there are so many things (good) qualities with each breed, which is why it makes it so hard to choose. |

| My family always adopted pound puppies, and all three dogs my parents owned until about 5 years ago were mutts...all incredibly good dogs, and very healthy. I love many kinds of dogs but didn't really have a major desire for one breed over another. However, my husband on the other hand has always wanted a Husky. To say that I was adamant about not getting a husky is an understatement. But after a lot of thought and consideration, I agreed. My puppy is 1 now, and through all the trials and tribulations of rainging a husky puppy, I love him to pieces. At this point, I can't imainge having any other breed! In fact, everyday, I think about getting another husky so that he could have a playmate.
Best of luck! Whichever dog you choose will be lucky to have you! |
