Lucky doesn't live with me, but I grew up with her and she is the family dog so I wanted to give her her own post and tell her story.

Six years ago my mom and I were coming home late at night in the middle of a thunderstorm. In a parking lot in the back of the subdivision we barely saw a yellow blur through the sheets of rain, but instantly recognized its general outline as a dog. We pulled over and called to it and up bounds a scraggly, soaked 5 month old puppy. We didn't even have to coax her into the car - she jumped right into our arms. We brought her home, dried her off, fed her, and took her to the vet the next day. She had a horrible case of sarcoptic mange that had wreaked havoc on her skin and chunks of her fur were missing. She was underweight, had no collar or microchip, and we had no idea what breed she was.

We put flyers up around the subdivision and in pet stores in case someone had lost their puppy, but no one claimed her. It wasn’t until we started looking to place her in a non-kill shelter that her origins became clear. In the shelters were other puppies that looked nearly identical to her, were the same age, and had been found in the same cluster of church parking lots and woods we found Lucky in. To this day we’re sure she was from a dumped litter and suspect she is a product of inbreeding. She has horribly crooked teeth and her back legs never developed correctly.

Since the shelters were full, we ended up being her forever home and she became the family dog.

She’s a sweet dog, even if a she’s a bit derpy at times. She barks non-stop and had a bad habit of burying her treats and guarding them from my previous husky. She is such a strange color that we suspected she was a mix, but it was until several years later that we did a DNA test and found out she was a Great Pyrenees. None of us had ever heard of the breed and she’s a different color than is ‘standard’ for a Pyrenees. I suppose it was a good thing that we already knew how to handle a stubborn, independent, northern working breed because she fit that bill perfectly.

He likes to sneak sticks inside and chew on them so I gave him a bully stick for the first time and he loved it.

Simply adorable! I wish I new someone with a puppy to play with Nanook! I was talking about puppies changing coat color in another thread and yours pictures are a perfect example of how quickly it changes!! I am totally amazed by it because I never knew they did that LOL

I found Kavik's first baby tooth 3/16/13. His bottom right canine. It came off while he was roughhousing with Lucky.

At a little over 4 months he's mastered the 'stand' trick and has finally outgrown his first puppy collar. Now I can use the one with a matching leash . I have two collar and leash sets. I need him to grow a little more before he can wear the other set that is red and blue.

He can finally jump on the bed by himself. It's all down hill from here. Look at that not so innocent face.

Yep, he's growing like a weed. I think he just hit a growth spurt, too. He was 33 lb. last Monday at 4 months and 1.5 weeks old and is starting to profusely shed his puppy coat. I can swipe my hand over his fur without plucking and get almost a handful worth. His color is beginning to darken again, I'm seeing a lot more black coming back into his fur. I'm tempted to get a scale to weigh him, but I can find out Saturday when he goes to the vet.

He is precious! I loved seeing his change already and look forward to seeing him fully grown. He is one handsome husky!

His coat seems to have changed over night. I swear he didn't have that much black around his chest and front legs yesterday.


Kavik introduced himself to the evil Furby today.


And a younger video of him playing with an IQ ball. I went back and posted a training video with him at about 10/11 weeks on the first page.

So do I, his coat changes more than any other husky I've seen. I literally wake up some days and find a part of his coat has changed color.

He is an agouti. And he's too much of a cutey .

I never really knew about agouti huskies until i joined this forum and found the husky coat colors site. At first I thought they look like mixes, but the more I see them, the more I fall for them. They are gorgeous, especially yours. It's cool to see how he is changing and growing.

Aww, thank you. I didn't either until I started looking for a dog. I randomly came across agouti coloring and instantly fell in love. Some might look like mixes, but he's undoubtedly a husky in the way he holds himself and behaves. The blue eyes help distinguish him, too. The only downside is at a glance most people call him an Akita. They probably won't when he gets bigger and leans out.


Funny story. A week ago I was walking Kavik on campus when this old lady by the music building got out of her car and asked, "Is that a woof?" I cringed the moment she pronounced it 'woof' instead of 'wolf'. There were a bunch of people around the building, I'm guessing on their way to some event, so they all turned and stared. I told her “no, he's a husky.” She took it well and said she was from Alaska and sees huskies all the time as a follow up, which made it even worse. I felt embarrassed for her.

If not Siberians, she should at least be familiar with Alaskan Huskies, which is what Kavik really looks like to me if he were not a Siberian. Oh, well. Everyone’s perceptions are different based on their experiences.

Kavik is 5 months old today!
He was fixed Saturday and has been wearing the cone of shame, passed out on pain meds.


He's developed a habit of knocking over his water bowl and laying in the water after playing outside.


He's also been losing puppy teeth almost everyday for about two weeks now. I've been able to find five, including both puppy canines.

I finally got my hands on a furminator today and spent a good hour brushing him out and filled half a trash bag. He's blowing his puppy coat like crazy. The more I brushed him, the more his color changed to black. After a few more days of good de-shedding, it will be interesting to see what color he really is under all of that fluff.

I want an Agouti at some point, but from my experience they are really hard to find!

He certainly is a cutie. I love looking at all of his pics! Hehe.

The fertilizer explosion last night measured as a 2.0 earthquake where I am. I heard a soft boom and thought it was thunder from the front moving in, it even made Kavik get up and look around. I was especially weirded out when my friend text me to ask if I was alive. I feel awful for the people involved. Some of the first responders lost their lives helping out at the scene.

On a less depressing note, Kavik has been giving me some weird looks lately. Usually out of boredom. Lol.









The Bluebonnets are coming in really nice this year. Whenever I see them they remind me of Jewel. I always took pictures of her in the bluebonnet fields. There was a patch of them in the dog park and I managed to snap a photo while Kavik was standing near them. Look at how much his fur has changed in only 3 weeks.

I totally just stalked all of your pictures haha, in one of the pictures it looks like he has a brown eye Maybe because of the lighting?
