| I bought some silver whiting for them today but Titus doesn't seem to know how to eat raw fish. I usually fillet the fish and give them cooked. When I hand him the raw fish today, he looked at me as if I grew another head. Lycan on the other hand is a total natural. He chew through two fishes easily. But 5 minutes later, I found a threw up chunk of one fish in the backyard. Is there a way to teach them how to eat raw fish? I've seen many youtube videos about husky/malamute eating raw fish and it seems so simple. I was expecting them to be sooo happy with raw fishes. |

| I have this problem. Delilah will.eat fish whole, even the head but cato looks at me like "wth?" I found that cutting the fish in half and opening it so that the meat and bones were laid flat made cato eat it. The skin really put him.off. He ate all the meat and insides, then he left the skin and head...which I gladly gave to Delilah. |

| I actually cut off the head of the fish when I gave them today because they are new to this so I don't want the head to put them off. I only gave them 1 small fish (about 10cm) each as a snack this afternoon and will try again later at dinner time. Lycan had actually stolen Titus fish!
Thanks Megan, I will try opening it in halves for Titus later.

| Mine will eat an entire whole fish if I let them. I will give them fillets every once in a while and cut it into chunks with scissors. |

| Are there any particular fish that's a good "starter" fish? I feed raw already, but I want to start adding some fish into his rotation. |

| Would you filet it first and give it to them or did you jump right in and try feeding them a whole one first? |

Not if they are raw - very easy to chew. Probably the softest bone I have ever fed the dogs. |

| Steele fell in love with eating fish when I tossed him a live one. Maybe try that? He was confused at first, but after playing with it for a bit, he finally figured out there was delicious meat on the inside. The wiggling/flopping of the fish kept him interested enough to let him bite into it. Of course, I live in FL so getting live fish is incredibly easy for me (so maybe I'm bragging a bit about my fishing skills ;D) but he had his first live fish when he was six months old or so, and since then even if I open a can of tuna he is ALL OVER me. Now that I'm doing this raw diet thing, this means I have an excuse to go fishing more often ;D It's a win win for both of us. |

| Hmm.. Live fish, that would be a little hard for me as they obviously won't sell live fish in the fish monger. I go fishing too sometimes but my fishing skills is horrible. I only ever catch a stingray once and Titus turn his nose up on it. My partner goes for some late night fishing sometimes where he caught some. |

| I don't know if I could feed it live - I'm kinda weird about alive stuff...I'm an odd duck. |

| I introduced fresh, well, frozen, sardines to Nikko and so far after 2 tries, he still won't eat it. I've tried cutting them in half and squeezing some guts out, I've tried cutting the fish into small pieces, and I've tried feeding it whole, frozen and thawed. He'll lick it, just won't eat it. Any suggestions? |

| So this is pretty shocking..Dogs not wanting fish..
I guess what I would try, is mixing chunks of the raw flesh into his regular meal to get him used to the smell and taste of it raw being food as well, eventually just putting a halfed fish, and then a whole fish down as a meal, and letting him figure it out.
I live in Pacific salmon spawning territory.
Mixie and Soshanna have had the joy of wading in a 10 inch deep, 40 yd wide river full of spawning Pink salmon. Both my dogs will fish and eat, while I fish. They just run around the shallows, chasing salmon, and eventually Soshanna catches ones and they gnaw it up..
I don't think I will be able to let Panzer, the Husky, do that. She can't be off-leash. I will definitely bring her live salmon to try to kill, though. |

| I gave my dog a mackerel for first time yesterday and he loved it! lol he couldn't finish the whole thing and only ate the dorsal half.
I read somewhere that you were supposed to freeze the wild-caught fish to kill off the parasites and feed them after? Because I would love to go fishing with Zeus and feed him my catch! |

| You probably should freeze first. They reccomend the same thing with feeding rats for reptiles. I personally run the risk of feeding my dogs live salmon. I figure if its good enough for me to take a bite out of, its good enough for the dogs. |

| I'm sure it's okay as long as you supervise him throughout the whole process. wear a plastic glove and hold the fish as he's eating it and if he starts to show any sign of wanting to swallow a big piece just pull it back,
raw fish bones are okay for the dogs to eat
btw, Koda's marking and colors are very beautiful! I'd like to see more picture of him as he's growing up! |

| Wow Koda's going to be one handsome husky!
And I read that salmons and mackerels are high in omega-3 than other fishes, Salmons are lil expensive so I usually go with mackerels. Also I give daily dose of fish-oil [only omega-3, not -6 or -9] the ones I take; I was worried about if it will cause any problems because it's made for humans but the research articles I found proved it was okay. [if you do find otherwise, please let me know! lol] |
