Where can i get a good antler for koda to replace his rawhide bone.. He loves his raw hide and i like giving him something like that when im eating so he doeant beg.. Can someone link me some good sites or brand

I order from AntlerCreek.com but if you order Antler pieces be sure to get something soft like Moose. The harder pieces like whitetail can break your puppy's teeth.

I get mine in-store, that way I can kind of heft them to see how dense they are, there are softer and harder types of antler, but of course variation within that. You want a light one for the reason Lani stated above, as well as the fact that he may lose interest if it's too hard to chew on. Sorry I can't give a reference for online retailers, I know not everyone has the option of buying them in a store. :/

If you are on facebook, Montana Antler has the most AMAZING antlers in my opinion. They don't have a website up yet, but they are very easy to work with and have a bunch of different package deals you can do. I also think they are reasonably priced. When you get true quality antlers they are expensive, but they last for a decent amount of time. Store bought ones usually aren't that fantastic.

Deer antlers like stated above aren't usually what you want to go for. You want either elk or moose. I have only ever worked with Montana, and I am very happy and will be sticking with them. I tried to buy antlers off of coupaw once, but I was very displeased. So I learned my lesson the hard way .

Oh man I just noticed how young your pup is! Be very careful with the antlers you pick out cause of his little baby teeth! I was giving you advice for an adult!! Yes the softer the better!

Also, when they're that young bully sticks still last a while, so that's another option, if you haven't tried that. And those are fine for baby teeth, you should take them away when they get small enough to swallow. Though Korra has been known to swallow a good 3 or so inches right under my nose and has always been just fine. Still, I try to take them away before that happens, just in case.
Make sure they're US ones though, and not Chinese pizzle.

I got one from a local non-chain pet store. The other's I get from my brother (he hunts deer). The dog's prefer the wild one over the store bought one. Just make sure to clean it well to get all the germs off it and file the ends so they are more rounded and not as pointy.

I bought large elk abtler fillet.. The fillets are cut on both sides to expose the middle to make it softer and more taste.. You guys think that will be ok for my young pup?

Elk antler is denser than moose. I wouldn't personally give elk or deer until adult teeth came in. The last thing I would want is a veterinary tooth extraction.

I agree with Lani - but I didn;t give Cato antlers until his adult teeth were in. He got trachea, duck feet and a himalayan.

Be very careful with antlers. We had a dog who broke a tooth on one, she was 12. It wouldn't stop bleeding and a week later after the tooth was extracted and tests were performed to find out why the bleeding wouldn't stop, we discovered she had cancer . It caused her a great deal of pain and misery from the constant bleeding. the bleeding stopped after 2 transfusions and a week later we had to put her down cause she could no longer stand up. Point is, I wouldn't give antlers to young or older dogs period.

Im very sry for your loss , But the antler didn't cause the cancer. She could have been chewing on a number of things that could damage and break teeth. Nylabones are worse than antlers because they don't give as much. Cooked Bones are harder and can splinter and rawhides can chip teeth and cause intestinal blockages. I like antlers and raw meaty bones personally. Moose antlers are the softest varieties and deer are the hardest. Kale chews elk, which is medium soft.

I didn't say the antlers caused the cancer. But they did break her tooth which led to the discovery of the cancer.

A lot of feeding antlers is dependent on what type of chewer your dog is and how dense the antler is you bought for your dog. If you bought one too dense or your dog isn't a good candidate for antlers, it's just asking for a broken tooth.

The cancer probably weakened the tooth which caused it to break. In that case I'd rather know than the cancer just unexpectedly take my dog.
