| So I have a random question for you folks.
Anyone here have had your mind set on the pup you wanted only to end up picking out a completely different pup, whether that be coat color or gender?
I know my heart will be taken by a pup regardless of what my original wants are for that particular dog. I've always had my heart set on a gray/white even though I know there are tons of coat changes throughout their lifetime. That's just always been what my dream was since a little kid.
I just wanted to see if anyone else has ever had this sort of "dilemma". |

| Ha ha! Mine ended up being a totally different breed. I never even considered a husky although I LOVED them as a child. When I considered getting a dog I wanted a big fat lazy type...maybe a mastiff or something. Two days after deciding I wanted a dog and checking online for adoptable pets...Frankie showed up. Literally.....he showed up at our front door as a stray. I figured it had to be fate, not having any idea what I was getting in to, lol. Now I wouldn't have it any other way. I posted in the books section....but I highly recommend reading A dog's purpose and a dog's journey. Sometimes they pick us |

| I wanted a white female, but we met Hailey and there was no question we were taking her home. Had she been grey/white, black/white, red/white.... she was coming home with us no matter what. Color is one of those things that tends to get forgotten when you meet the dog. _________________ www.itsahuskything.com It's a husky thing... you wouldn't understand. |

| Yep, I wanted a black and white sibe with full mask. What I ended up falling in love at first sight with and adopting was a black and white with an open mask...then later his black diluted considerably, so much so that he looks like a grey/white at first glance even though he's really a dilute black and white. _________________ |

Color is one of those things that tends to get forgotten when you meet the dog. Oh I definitely agree with that. Despite what you may have your heart set on, meeting an animal and falling in love with it is the main priority. |

| Both of my previous dogs chose me. I wasn't even intending on getting a dog. Samantha kind of just landed up being mine. A friend of mine got her as a puppy, then my hubby and his dad decided they wanted her. Well some where along the line I took over caring for her, and I never regret a second of it. I had a lovely 13 yrs with her. Sadly I had to put her to sleep in August. Roxzanna came along from an unplanned liter my brother in laws dog had. Her, and my hubby's dog got together one day, despite everyone's efforts to keep them apart. They both should have been fixed, but that's another discussion. I fell in love with the only tan puppy of the liter. I lost her at the young age of 10. |

| Koda was suppose to be an all white female with hopefully brown or green eyes.... Yep.
I never wanted a red, ever. Rogue just sort of happened- I wanted to get her at least so I could properly place her instead of the couple who was sort of in a rush, but Koda and her clicked snd we fell in love in two seconds, and she was our dog. The photos of her in the rehoming ad were actual awful in comparison to how cute she was in person. Anyone on here who's been around for about 4+ years knows I was deadset on waiting until I found a good breeder with a pie pop up. |

| I wanted a black and white female with blue eyes. When we went to the breeder the females wanted nothing to do with us but this little black and white male with tri color eyes kept running off to play with the pups then run back and jump in mine and my wifes lap, even after she made him biff it into the floor. The rest is history, a great awesome fun history !! My father in law always told me when we go to look at pups, pick the one that chooses you over food. There wasn't food down but he chose us over play with his litter mates, that was good enough for us. |

| This was such a good question!!! I actually always wanted a pure white husky with blue eyes.. And then i grew to liking the looks of grey and white.. When i actually seen kodas mom i didnt like her looks and i looked into what agouti coloring was because that is what her dad was and didnt like it at first.. Then out of no where i feel in love and i wanted a agouti.. Throughout the whole process of picking my pup i was debating between 2 males.. Koda (agouti/white) and the other that was a black ad white male.. Deep down i think i knew i was picking koda the whole time! Lol |

| I did have my heart set on a black and white male or female didn't matter but when I went to pick up my pup I took one look at sapphira and it was love at first site. Lol when sapphira gets a little bit older maybe 2 I plan on getting a red, but you know how that goes. They pretty much choose you... |

| I can't imagine living without a dog, but Nunya was the only dog we ever got on purpose. We got a pit bull from my uncle when I was little when he couldn't keep it(can't remember gender, I was young). We had to rehome because we couldn't afford the chronic ear infection meds so he went to my uncle's friend who had been wanting the dog cause it was so sweet. We got two red dobermans, unaltered brother and sister, from my uncle when he couldn't keep them anymore(he was good at that), rehomed the male to another friend of my uncle. The female was the best dog I've ever had so far, she had to be put to sleep at eleven years old from cancer in 2010. Then we got a ten month old German shepherd wolfdog from a friend of my sister because she wasn't allowed to keep it anymore. Then we got Nunya because my mom missed having a dog Then I got a call from a friend and we ended up with Snoopy. My dream dog is a tri-colored pit bull terrier, preferable male, from a working kennel in Florida that I admire. Huskies are a little far from that but I love them anyways lol |

| Well....I was never a dog person, period. So I never wanted a dog, period. Hubby was dead set on getting one after he graduated with his Master's degree so it was his choice but it depended on my allergies. And the one ultimatum was, 'We will adopt!' So he agreed, and his first choice was an Akita, and second choice was a husky.
We called the Akita rescue and when they did a home visit, they brought one of their rescues, and I immediately started sneezing and eyes started to itch. The dog hadn't even entered the home yet! We met outside in the driveway! So then the volunteer said they had a really cute Akita/Husky mix. So we drove over to meet Toby, and I didn't react as severe, but I did break out in hives!
Then we ended up at the husky rescue 'yard'. They put us in a room full of husky hair with the ceiling fan spinning. First came Ginger and she walked right over to me and sat right between my legs and did not move the rest of the 2 hours we were there. They brought another female in and she laid in a corner. Hubby went to check out the other huskies in the yard and brought in a white male that was hyper and ended up trying to sit in my lap.
In the end, we said we would think about it and on the drive home, I was still waiting for an allergy reaction. The next day, hubby and I both looked at each other and said at the same time, 'Let's adopt Ginger!'
I never really even saw her face until we picked her up 2 days later.
When I saw Storm's picture, I had no clue how BIG he was, height and weight. But after him spending the weekend, the rescue said that if we didn't adopt Storm, they would keep Storm since he was 'special needs husky'. She later admitted that she would've only adopted Storm out to one applicant - us. I'm honored she felt about us that way! I never wanted a 'big' dog, but I'm glad we have Storm and wouldn't want it any other way! _________________ |

| I tried talking my sister into getting a German Shepherd, but she was adamant on getting a Husky! When we went to the breeder to pick out our puppy, we know EXACTLY what we wanted! He had to be a dark black/white male w/blue eyes. The breeder had two males exactly what we wanted, but Hayden stood out to us. We ended up getting our bi-eyed male Hayden instead.
When getting our second Husky, I knew I wanted a pure white female and she had to have a black nose! I found one, but she was sold. I ended up getting my little pure white female w/a pink nose who melted my heart. I'm still partial to the black nose, but love my little girl just the same! |

| Sierras face and eyes melted my heart when i saw her pic on CL i had to have her, when i was the 2nd call my heart died, but i kept looking online, did not really matter the color then just needed to be a husky. well as fate had it sierra ended up with us, she is my dog. she needed a buddy and again color did not matter as much as a connection between her and the new husky (really wanted another red) and again fate stepped in and she picked Jack the only other red out of 30 huskies at the rescue! im hooked on reds and would love to stick with them but i know connection is much more important and when the time comes i will know the right one because of that special connection. _________________ |

| I wanted another lab, but hubby talked me into a husky. I pictured one that was black and white with brown eyes (blue eyes on any species weird me out for some reason) So we wound up with Nanook - red with blue eyes (which I am very slowly getting used to but they still weird me out). |

| I didn't really pick Maya out my mom found her online, she was the last one of the litter. She came running up to me wanting attention right when we got there, so we took her home that night. I liked dogs at the time but never really had a connection or wanted anything to do with them. Maya was different, she didn't smell doggy and isn't always in my face like other dogs. We wanted a black and white husky for our next dog. Then we got to the mall and my mom and i fell in love with a puppy in the window so we then brought her home. Maya and Sophie loved each other immediately, well Maya just wanted to bully her but Sophie always wanted to be with Maya and they would cry when they weren't together. Then with Kay i wasn't going to get from a byb or mall and wanted to rescue. I saw Kay's picture on petfinder and fell in love with her face and eyes. |

| When I went to go look at my first litter of pups, I had my heart set on a black/white female. There were three black/white females to choose from. I picked the One and only male left in the litter! Lol! I was pretty set against a male too. It was love at first site with him. I didn't give any of the three females a second look. |

I really wanted a light red and white as my second sibe, but we ended up getting Elara who's grey and white. No regrets! _________________ -Sara |

| I waited like 3 years for that to happen Sara, lol, and no luck! Only place I knew of who had pies was Celtic Acres/Farms whatever they're called who is completely unethical. I had emailed maybe over a dozen breeders in several states to let me know if they have a pie somehow show up. |

| Embry was completely intended. I saw him on the breeders website, called and said I wanted him, and picked him up that Friday.
For our second, we actually put a deposit on a 5 year old exbreeding bitch from a breeder in Northern Minnesota, but the minute I saw Zoeys face on puppyfind, I had to forfeit my deposit on Karma and go with my heart.
And then Ares, was a rescue that ended up being a foster failure. |

| I've wanted my own dog since high school, but back then I wanted a collie. We'd had one when I was younger and Rocky was my soulmate, slept with me, waited for me at the door to come home from school, typical Lassie-type story. We'd had to put him down due to congenital mange (the vet told my dad it would eventually drive Rocky crazy and my dad's heart broke). I had prepared this whole file for my dad of how much it would cost me for my new dog, but because I was going to the Navy, he wouldn't let me do it.
Fast forward six years, my hubby is not a dog person. When I first met him he was afraid of them (bad childhood experience) but as time went on, he got to realize that they really aren't that scary and my love for them won him over (that and a beautiful pit rescue that we'd walk together). When the time came to decide on a dog, I wanted a lab or a golden, something along those lines. Hubby loves anything that has to do with snow, like Frozen Planet was his favorite show. He took one look at huskies and said that's what he wanted. They fell into his weight range (a limit of 50lbs lol) and I'd had experience with a husky growing up (my cousin had one when he moved in with us) but I knew I needed to do the research. I wanted a dog and at this point, I didn't particularly care what dog I got, I just wanted the companionship. But because of my hubby's fear, getting a puppy was my best bet of making this work. Finding a puppy on the other hand...
It took me two months to find a pupppy. The area up just doesn't have that many breeders and I'd never even considered driving out to get one until my friend mentioned that she drove six hours to get her GSD. So I broadened my scope of search and that's how we found Karli. I knew I wanted a girl, to be honest that was MY only stipulation. Hubby did not want a red, he was really set on a black and white, although not adverse to a grey and white if that was all they had. I sent him Karli's ad and HE called the breeder first, not gonna lie I was shocked. When I talked to her breeder, he was very informative, gave me all kinds of info and told me he would send me the pictures of the girls he had available. He had three, Karli, her sibling, and a half sibling from another litter (he only had one male.) Karli's sibling had a hold on her, and I was kinda impatient about waiting for the younger puppy, so I told hubby I wanted Karli (he was going so far as to be picky about what her mask looked like but I told him that was gonna be a lost cause lol). When we went to get her, I was nervous about how she'd be. The breeder put her in my arms and it was love at first lick, no joke, she licked my face and I was a goner. I saw his other puppies and it didn't matter to me, Karli was mine. And she's been by my side ever since, to the point where hubby has taken to calling her my shadow, where I am, you usually find Karli pretty close behind and that's what I always wanted. |

| Thank you for all your responses! I'm glad I'm not the only one. Hehe.
Here is my situation and what prompted the original question:
I have been waiting for a gray/white male pup since August. A litter was born in November with only one male and it was already spoken for (there is a deposit / waiting list).
A litter was just born yesterday; there are 4 males and 3 females. They are all black/whites but will be dilutes. There is another breeding scheduled for the spring (with different dam/sire) where they are more likely to have gray/white pups.
My desire to get a puppy is so so strong right now, but I still really want a gray/white pup. Do I just say forget it and pick a pup from this litter or do I wait and hope that they have gray/whites and a male in the next litter? I am first pick male right now and can move my deposit to any litter I choose.
What would you do in this situation? Where you aren't really meeting the pups or seeing them grown before you pick. _________________ |
