| We took Odin to the Vet today for the very first time. We took him to where my aunt works b/c she is a vet tech. She called me tonight telling me that he has round worm. I guess most puppies get it. But i feel terrible for my poor Odin. He kept farting all night long, after his vet visit, and let me tell you they STUNK horrible. My husband and i couldn't figure out why. When we got home and took him out side. He pooped and a tonnn of worms where in it totally freaked my husband and I out. We called my aunt and she said it was normal. We had to wipe his butt for him and everything, he is acting completely normal so we aren't concerned. Did anyone else go through this when they first got their puppy?? One concerned mamma |

| Roundworms are common and really easy to get rid of. Panacur is cheap and works great. When the medication is given, the roundworms let go of the intestines and come out in the feces.
My Kale had roundworms and coccida when I got him. |

| Is Panacur a medicine?? I haven't heard of that. He got his first de-worming shot today. Did they have a lot of feces that had the worms in it or just after the medication was given. |

| For me it was just after the medicine. The only thing that I noticed with him were loose stools. I would do a follow up de worming in 3 weeks to make sure that they are all gone. |

| We just took Scarlett to the vet for her first visit and she too has round worm. The vet just gave us a medication that you sprinkle on their food. Problem is we have another dog (chocolate lab 1.5 yrs) that we have to treat now too... in case she has already given it to Charlie. Hopefully it won't be a pain to get rid of with the two dogs as I know they can keep infecting themselves.
Her stools are a little on the soft side too since taking the meds.
Also - a quick question to those dealing with this who have given the powder medication.... Scarlett seems to not like the taste of it (or she knows that the powder is what is making her tummy funny), so now she doesn't want to eat her food (especially when there is medication on it)..... my lab on the other hand could care less.... Any advice on how to get her to eat her food with the medication on it??
Thanks! |

| Try putting a little bit of warm water on the food, and if that doesn't work try a little bit of broth. That usually gets Ghost to eat if we need her to. | Yuki also had roundworms when I first got her. I had given her a monthly preventive one day and all night she had worms in her stool, and I was freaking out. I HATE worms. I had to ask my mom to clean it up because I'm so squeamish when it comes to worms and bugs. I went to the vet and they gave me a two-dose liquid type stuff can't remember when its called. I gave it to her that day and then again two weeks later, the follow-up sample showed she didn't have them anymore |

| Most puppies have them, which is why the breeder should worm the pups and mother before going to their new home, and a worming regiment is recommended through the puppy's first few months. After that yearly. I don't do the Strongid anymore, since it has to be dosed then re-dosed in exactly 14 days to be effective. I choose to do fenbendazole which is a 5 day dose that takes care of the adults and the eggs as well as clears out giardia. |
