| Hello everyone,
My husband and I just purchased our very first puppy together. We got married in august and decided it was time to "start" our family. This past Sunday we drove 1.5 hours to pick up our handsome little man Odin. We are so very excited and he is honestly the best puppy we could ask for. He is picking up on things very well, he is doing very well with potty training!
The seller recommended this website to us, by the seller and we will be using it often to get advice on raising our new little man!

| Welcome!! I would love to see pictures! Also where are you guys from? You should join some meet-ups in your area once your pup is old enough |

| I haven't figured figured out how to post pictures just yet We live in Michigan, about an hour north of Detroit. How old do they have to be before you take them to dog parts and other groups?? |

| Welcome! I can't wait to see more pictures of Odin Your puppy should have all his shots before taking him to the park. So, at least 4 months old. You definitely don't want him getting sick or God forbid parvo! You can take him to other places for socialization that should be fine. Such as, puppy training class. |

| Welcome! He's adorable! You should wait until he's had all of his shots before socializing him with dogs you don't know, and most definitely before you take him to a dog park. Most parks have minimum age requirements as well, a lot are 4 months but I've seen some as high as 6 months so look into it before you go. | As others have said, wait until he is 4 months to take him to dog parks and regular parks that many dogs frequent. He should have all his parvo shots and his rabies shot by then. A good way to socialize is puppy classes as Hayden said, and if you know friends of yours that have well behaved dogs that are updated on their shots maybe try setting up private playdates. Even if your pup doesn't get a lot of socialization until four months I think he will still be fine, I got my eskimo when he was 4 months old and he hadn't had much interaction with dogs and he plays the hardest of all the dogs at the dog park now. I think the main thing is to socialize him with people. Yuki was socialized a lot when she was younger but even now at 19 weeks when people try to approach her she is still scared and timid. We're still working on it And my gosh that pup is gorgeous! Maybe we'll have to drive up and meet you and your pup at one of those Michigan meet ups next year! |

| Congrats on your first pup! Hope you did a ton of reading up on the husky and what you may have missed we will help fill you in on! If you have questions try the search button up top first and check out the sticky posts at the top of all the sections what breeder did you get odin from? Never had a member come on here from a breeder suggestion. _________________ |

| Thank you so much everyone for making us feel so welcome. I had 2 husky pups growing up and my mom still has our 10 year old Emma-sue. But after doing much research and looking on here, she did not raise them correctly. We want to give Odin the best life possible, no plans to have kids for a while and plan to get him a sister or brother within on-year. From what we have read huskies really like other dogs to play with. What does everyone else think about this. I will for sure wait untill he has all of his shots, thanxx for the info. Megan, once Odin is old enough it would be great for them to meet up @ a meet up here or maybe we could come to ohio he has had a few play dates with other dogs and lovesssss to play all ready! We got him from a breeder in Gilbrater, Mi. I am so thankful he recommended this Thanxx again, we love the warm welcome |

| For a second pup I'd recommend graduating him from a puppy training class first. It really helped Yuki learn when she saw how well trained Cloud was, but she also picked up some of the bad habits he had xD |

| Ya we are debating about the training class, I think it will be really good for him tho. Petco offers a 6-8 week coarse for $80. We just want to make sure we have the Time bc we close on our first home next week. YAY Ironic that you said a lot of you have 2 for a reason. I told my husband last night after I joined the forum that looks like alot of people have 2, so I'm sure we will be getting another |

I told my husband last night after I joined the forum that looks like alot of people have 2, so I'm sure we will be getting another Honestly, I'd recommend going to a training center that isn't in a pet store. We did training with one of our dogs at Petsmart, and I hated it. We'd do a lot of training walking around the store and it was like I was paying for people to come and pet my dog. |

ironically enough, my husband and i were jsut discussing that. we dont want him to be distracted if we are going to be having him trained. I still dont know how i feel about it. I kind of want to give Odin a chance to prove himself. I felt like when we were at the pet store that the trainer just kept bring up how he is a puppy and he will do this and that and just all this negativity about him b/c he is a "puppy". He told us not to get him soft toys and not to ever have if off of a lesh, there were just some things we didnt agree with. I think that my husband and i can handle the majority of it.
Odin is doing so good! In the past 2 days he has had no "pee accidents" in the house. He is VERY vocal about letting us know when he needs to go outside and when he did have his accident it was right by the door. We are so proud of him all ready |

The soft toy thing I don't agree with, my Karli is a pup and she loves her soft toys. She chews or chases them. As to the off leash thing, since he's a husky, this is very true. Huskies off-leash is usually (there are some exceptions) a bad idea. They have a very high prey drive. Can't wait to see pictures!!! |

I just wanted to point out that sometimes it's better to have distractions while traning. In real life, they will most likely be distracted by numerous things when you are giving them commands. Learning to keep their focus is half the battle. Please post more pics when you can. He looks adorable! |
