Nanook is 5 months old now, and hes pretty well kennel trained. he goes right in when you tell him, and even likes to sleep in there at night. the problem is when i leave for work he cries all day in his kennel, and now the neighbors are complaining does anyone know how to correct this behavior??! help!

Are you giving him anything to focus his attention on while in there? Like a special treat or toy?
Mine did that when they were little too and it was usually they were bored or just lonely.
My opinion is give him a special toy or puzzle that gives treats.

yea i always leave toys in there, at least one bone and a chew toy. I've tried covering his kennel too and that doesnt work either

They have a lot of puzzle toys that makes them work for the treat. Maybe try and buy one of those. Hopefully someone will chime in and have another idea. You think he would have a sore throat from the crying.

Huskies are very pack orientated and I would imagine that they hate to be alone all day with nobody around, no mental stimulation and nowhere to release any pent up energy. Your dog is probably bored stiff and misses you.

Perhaps you could organise for a dog walker to come once a day to take him out and give him a walk?
I think most professional dog walkers charge about $15-$20 a session.
Alternatively there might be a neighbourhood teenager looking to earn a few bucks and could do this for you.

I agree with Kaya. Organizing a dog walker, or even a friend to come in and check on him could help. When Bear was around that age he used to do the same thing. Have you ever tried giving him a Kong treat? We put some kibbles in the bottom, then some peanut butter, then either a milk bone or more kibbles on top. We usually freeze it so it lasts him much longer! That should keep him busy for quite a while. Usually Bear gets pretty tired after spending a good hour on his Kong, then falls asleep happily.

Out of curiosity, how long is he alone for? I would try really really tiring him out before you put him in there. That should help him relax a bit when you have to leave for any length of time. Plenty of exercise, and some kind of toy or treat for him should really help, hopefully!

Kiba cried SO loud itsounded like we were keeping a chimpanzee in our house whenever we crated her. She did it for about1 week and slowly cried less and less over the course of a month. We also tried covering the crate, interactive toys, leaving a radio on and various other things i read about. What seemed to work best was putting special treats in there every time we put her in. Also i get up and walk her first thing in the morning b4 work and then again at lunch time. I also feed her right next to her crate. All that being said, it still took a bit. Its hard to hear them cry but have faith it wont last forever!
