So today I took Luna to the Vet and While talking to the Vet, I told her Luna is is losing her on her feet. just little patch. next thing I know she was scraping the area of the skin so she can test it. She came back 15min and told me Luna have Demodicosis.

I would like every owners of husky that are puppies please, search for area of the body that seem to be lose of hair. I discovered it on her feet, it wasn't big to be noticeable, but I managed to found it.

She told me I was unlucky i found it this way can they treat it since it was small. Now Luna is on Ivermectin. She takes .1mL a for 2 days and increase the dose from there. There are chances it may goes until her adult year, but since it's not big compared to other dogs they might treat it.

I was told not to give heartworm this mouth because of it.

The feet seem to be a common place people find it. Callie's feet have remained unaffected though so I'm glad I didn't think that meant she didn't have mange.

Demodex can flair up her whole life, but it'll mainly be due to stress, changes or weakened immune system. I assume this is why you were told not to give heartguard this month. Most people advise against vaccines and the like until the issue is under control.

Is Luna spayed? Demodex is mainly passed through genes so by fixing dogs with it, you're helping reduce the issue in future generations.

She's not, I think our vet is still waiting for the right age or weight. I found a local shelter who will do it, but my girlfriend is not having

Oh, if she's not old enough, don't rush it! I couldn't tell if she was older or still a pup. Now that I look closer, she does look young in her pictures. Some vets won't spay/neuter until the demodex is under control because the stress of surgery can cause flare ups.

Anna was just diagnosed with mites last month on the back of her leg. The vet only has me wash her leg with prescription shampoo twice a day. It thankfully isn't growing any and a part of it near the pads of her one foot seems to be going away. She wanted us to just continue with the shampoo since it is such a little spot and not do the dips as she said right now as long as it isn't growing or spreading the dips will be a waste of money. Do you have any home remedies to help with it?

Do NOT do the dips, even if this doesn't work. Those chemicals are way too harsh on a dog. There are other treatments. The ivermectin seems to be a popular treatment. My vet had Callie do Advantage Multi once a week, which I still hated because it's a flea/tick preventative and there's a reason we only apply those monthly.

Ellen, we've got a thread going with home remedies that we've researched and tried. If you have any questions about any of the things I'm doing, I'll be happy to answer them. My "home remedy" is pretty basic but I'm seeing some improvements. She's leaving her spots alone more.

Also, if it's just in one area/under 4 spots, it's considered localized and these ones will usually go away without a huge all out treatment plan. Callie has several spots, so she has a generalized case, which needs a little more work on my end.

Basically what you want to do for your dog is boost their immune system so their body can control the mite population all on it's own. Right now, I'm aiding Callie in killing the mites with a few home remedies but my major focus is getting her immune system to take over for me. Boosting immunity is really just as simple as making a few changes to diet.

Thank you that will help a lot! Yes she only has two spots. We have her on the prescription Peroxiderm Shampoo. She hasn't messed with the spots since before we got the shampoo so I am assuming it is getting better. Right now she eats Blue Buffalo Wilderness Adult Salmon Food. Do you have any advice on anything right now I should do on top of the shampoo?

Also, just in case you are wondering she is still a puppy on adult food because she had crystals in her bladder when she was on Blue Buffalo Puppy Wilderness, it probably wasn't from that but the vet did want us to change foods after we got rid of the crystals at least a different flavor of the food.

Well you're already feeding a pretty good food so good job there! That'll help her a lot. If you had been feeding her poorer food this whole time, I think you would have had a worse problem. If she's not messing with the spots, it's safe to say what you're doing is working and you've just got to wait for the hair to grow back. If you want to help that process, there are several ways to boost hair growth, but I haven't gotten into that yet since I'm still battling the constant biting and itching.

What I have been doing is adding Apple Cider Vinegar to her food and I will probably start adding it topically as well. I just wanted to take it one step at a time and now I think she's ready for the next step. What ACV does is makes the body more acidic. It's not enough to hurt the dog, but it's enough that the mites don't like it. Taking ACV internally will basically force them out of the body and externally will not only kill them, but also keep them off her. If you have a second dog or she's around any other dog a lot, there's a chance they've been swapping mites. Though demodex isn't contagious, all dogs have mites, it's just most dogs' immune systems take care of the levels. Our girls didn't get that lucky. You don't have to isolate her from other dogs, but you have to realize that you're not only trying to get rid of her current mites, but also prevent more from just reinfesting what you just got under control.

Okay, how much should I add to her food? And do you think I can just add it after washing her spots?

She is around another puppy Molly. They play a few minutes a week, not that often. We don't have another dog though so it would just be Molly and they have only had her for a couple of weeks so they just started playing every once in awhile. The longest they played was an hour when I watched Molly. Do you think that is too much?

No! That's fine! Don't limit her play at all! I just mentioned that to make sure you're aware that we're kind of tackling two issues here. Just like fleas. You're not only worrying about the ones on her but the ones around her too.

Adding to the food I do about 1 teaspoon once a day. If you type "apple cider vinegar and mange" into google, you'll get a few hits that'll tell you how much to add to food for her weight. They'll also tell you how much you can add to like her shampoo or mix with water to apply topically to her spots. If you can't find anything, I can look in the morning and send some links your way. You don't want to do too much at once though so I'd say try either internally or externally for a week or so to make sure she doesn't have any problems with it, then you can add in the other method.

Okay so I wanted to let you know I started adding the teaspoon once a day. I tried typing those words in and just stuff about mange seemed to come up. Hahah. But she is about 33 lbs. I figured the one teaspoon wasn't too much. Also decided we would take it one step at a time so we might apply it topically later on. As you mentioned above I might start applying it after a week but I might just stick with internally for at least a month. I know I won't receive immediate results so I am all for doing things one at a time. She doesn't seem to have any problem with it so I assume that's a good sign. I will keep you updated.

So Shae we have been trying the apple cider vinegar every morning since the 14th and we have been seeing some very good results. The hair looks to have grown back and the skin isn't as red anymore. Still a little pink and dried out but not bright red. We haven't added it topically yet still internally and we actually stopped the shampoo. Here is our results so far







I don't know if you can tell but the light pink spots are where it is.

So I ended up finding another spot but this one is on her back leg but up by her hip sort of. The skin is very dried out but it is just light pink, so I am hoping it is in the process of going away. There is a good bit of dark hair that is short in this spot so I believe it is growing back.

Is there anything I can put on it to help with the dry skin? I assume it is just a part of her having mites but it seems to itch. As I said I stopped using the shampoo on those spots and honestly they look like they are actually healing as I showed in the photos.
