So I know this is a common thing, as huskies are very good escape artisits. But has anyone ever had one escape and come back? Because Karli did. We had left her in the back yard while we ran out for a bit. When we got home, she was sitting in front of the front door waiting for us. Apparently, when we didn't open the back door to let her in (she scratches at it to let us know) she figured out how to get under the fence (we live in base housing and hubby had blocked this hole off but the rain lately made the cardboard he used flexible) and came around to the front door because that's how we get in the house after her walks. I was so relieved and hubby is going to home depot today to get supplies to correct the fence better. I'm just shocked she didn't run off!!!

Yikes I wouldn't leave her outside unattended at 11 weeks....

Well we aren't going to anymore...not til he fixes the fence. But there's nothing she can get into out there except whatever toys she's carried out there on her own. I'm just shocked she came back!

I think it's great that your fixing the fence to make it escape-proof, but I would also be concerned about what others could do... theft, poisoning, harassment, etc. There's a lot of thefts in my area. Plus, when I was 15, I lost my great dane to poisoning. We had a 6 foot concrete wall, and someone (we think our neighbor) tossed it right over the fence. Now I'm super paranoid about leaving my dog outside unattended.

Huh I never thought of that!!! We're in base housing, and normally if she's in the back yard I'm keeping an eye on her. We weren't gonna be gone that long so I didn't want to crate her but I guess I've gotta do that now. There are a lot of thefts out here (mostly Jeeps at the moment) but she's a cute puppy so I do worry that someone would take her. Thanks for the heads up!

First it's Jeeps, then it's So-Adorable-It-Gives-You-A-Headache-Husky-Puppy... Although it may not be overly likely that she'd get stolen or poisoned, you just never know.

Apparently my dad came to let them out the other day and somehow the back gate was open. Mishka, Cheyenne, and Ro got out. He said he walked out the back hate, saw them, whistled, and they came running inside. He waited 2 weeks before telling me so j wouldn't freak. Lll

I knew they were escape artists, I'm just glad I didn't have to run after her. Now I know better. I'm not used to living in the city where people will steal things, I'm from FL and we lived on a dead end, dirt road, with lots of property. Now she's asleep next to the sliding glass door. Silly puppy!

I would doubt any puppy that young would go far. They haven't developed their independence yet.

Siku slipped her lead once when I was trying to get her in the car and she just took off. Thankfully I caught her quickly with the help of some treats.

I was walking both girls down a trail once and tripped over a root and let go of both leashes. Thankfully Siku turned around to see what was wrong with me and Elara kept walking, but really slowly so I could catch her. Guess only Siku cares if I get hurt or not. lol.

tell your husband to get a roll of chicken wire and some of the 2 by 2 patio bricks. we are in base housing and the gaps under the fence line is huge lol. we put chicken wire all along the fence line with about a foot of it bent flat along the ground and then held the bottom in place with the patio stones. once they realize they can go under the fence it becomes a huge temptation to simply dig themselves a hole lol i recommend the 2by2 slabs because Dakota at 3 months could pick up and move the smaller traditional bricks ... little twit lol

Thanks for the tip!!! Yes these fences are a joke. We were walking the neighborhood the other day (Karli's had three rounds of shots, including Parvo, so the vet said short walks were OK) and some little yorkie slipped under the fence and ran at us. The owner just stood there and watched. I was gonna pick it up to give it back but it ran from me and a car was coming. That's when the owner jumped the fence to get it. I was like "um I don't want you to get hit little puppy"

My two got our of he gate once when I realize it I ran out the front door with some treats and leashes.

I start callig them they come running from around my neighbors house. I was real surprised, They got the treats and lots of pets and hugs.

Another time I was walking Blaze I trip and fell he stayed with me.

Yet a third time he pop a D-ring on his harness he went running I called my husband told him where we were at Blaze ran around the corner right into my husband and to our house.

When Bode was about 4 months my Aunt's German Shepherd mix was over playing and we were at the back of the yard and the dogs had run up to the front of the yard next to the side of the house where we couldn't see them. We realized something didn't sound right so we checked on them. My aunt's dog had pushed the gate open (the idiot guy doing our roof at the time had closed it, but not latched it so we didn't realize it was open) and bolted and Bode followed her. Luckily Bode came back pretty quickly but my Aunt's dog we had to corner in the neighbor's yard. One of the scariest moments of my life.

Also, apparently when I was on a trip, my fiance was in the house and Bode was in the backyard. All of a sudden he heard Bode's tags jingling louder than usual, so he looked out the front window and there was Bode in the front yard just hanging out! He opened the front door and he came right in. We figured that he squeezed through the gap between the fence and the house somehow, so that was rectified right away!

Its good that she didn't run off. At least she knows where the food is lol and I guess she kinda likes us. We had a husky when I was a kid (he belonged to my cousin who moved in with us when I was and my dad had him kenneled outside with our cockerspaniel. The kennel had a concrete floor but the spaniel managed to dig under the door. Needless to say the spaniel got out and came to the front door to be let in while the husky took off down the road. We never saw the husky again (my cousin went driving for hours looking for him). So stuff like this scares the crap outta me!

We were burglarized on Wednesday, so I am nervous about leaving Bodhi alone outside in his kennel now. I live in the country. The thief kicked a door in my garage and stole my bike. Luckily, I got it back and he was caught. By chance, the cops ran some plates of cars at a flea bag motel used by tweakers. His car had stolen plates and the car was stolen. When the police rousted him, his room was full of stolen stuff. And meth. The cops said almost everybody they arrest for burglary has meth on him.

Lol, luckily, Lycus hasn't escaped.. YET!
Only twice where I'll leave the fence door open for like 2 seconds to take something through, he walked out behind me but all I did was point my finger back to the yard and he ran back in lol. Other than that, I've had no problems with escaping thankfully.

My husband let Kota outside on afternoon while he was trying to vaccume, and after he finished he walked out on the front porch to smoke and there sat Kota. Just chilling on the porch, looking at hime like "Hey Dad!" He liked to have had a heart attach. He called me at work in a bit of a panic, which I thought was funny since she didn't actually run away. She ended up doing it again before he could figure out where/how to fix the problem but she never left the front yard which I was thankful for. Getting her in the house was the challenge but once she heard me/him getting the bag of treats she was in the door in no time.

Then the weekend before last when we went to NC to get Skyler, they both escaped. We are still not sure how as my parents have an acre of yard that is completely fenced in with a 9' tall fence that is topped with barbed wire. Anyhow, they got out and I was pretty sure that we were not getting them back, and if we did we would have probably only gotten Kota back since Skyler was still pretty scared and untrusting of us. We had only been with her for about 36 hours at this point. My parents live 5 miles down a gravel road, way back in the woods and they're the only house out there so there are acres upon acres of woods out there and I just knew that they had ran off and were gone. We walked the trails, down to the lake, and all through the house calling for them. Finally Kota came and met my husband on one of the trails and followed him home, which I was happy for but at the same time sick because I figured Skyler was definitly gone if her and Kota were not together, but while we were out searching the woods (Now 2 hours since they escaped) Skyler showed back up at the house where my mom had stayed just incase she did come back.

We were lucky. Knowing what I know about huskies I figure with nothing but woods and opportunities in from of them that they had escaped and were long gone. I was even more thankful that Skyler trusted us enough to actually come back. Part of my knew that Kota would because she is a people dog and is attached to my husband and mines hip, but with Skyler being so new to us I had my doubts. Anyways, needless to say they are not left outside alone anymore, even if its just long enough to get a bottle of water from the fridge.

I guess huskies aren't the only dogs to escape. My hubby and I found a lab in the park behind our house tonight. He's not neutered, but walks well on a leash (I had to get him to the back yard somehow) full grown from the looks of him, and trained. Its cold here outside (around 31F I think) so we kenneled Karli and put him in the laundry room. We washed our hands between catching him and playing with her this evening. WIAF (Whidbey Island Animal Foundation) was already closed when we found him but I know they're open tomorrow so I'll be taking him in. I'm not worried about him being sick (he's very well trained) but I still had to be cautious with my baby. My hubby (the man who was afraid of dogs) stayed with him while I got my car so we could bring him back to the house. I really hope his family claims him quickly.

Good job on saving the lab! I hope he is reunited with his family soon.

They showed up this morning! Apparently he had gotten out of his collar and then escaped their friend's yard. So glad that someone came to get him!
