| Subject: Chews up her bedding Wed Nov 07, 2012 8:59 am | |
| So when we first got Daisy, we got her a big doggy bed and she slept in it and liked it. We then put it inside her crate and she would sleep in it too. Eventually, she wouldn't get in her crate and refused to sleep in it and we found out that she had peed on her bedding. We took it out and washed it and put it back in the crate and she went crazy on it. She started to bark at it and jump on it and try to tear it to pieces. We took it out of her crate and put it away but every time we try to put it back in her crate she would go crazy again.
I thought, maybe she didn't like that one anymore and bought a new bedding and she still did the same thing and has just tore her bedding to pieces. We even just bought a thin one that lines the crate and she still goes crazy on it. I just wonder why she does that because I thought since it is getting colder that she might want some bedding in her crate because as of right now she has nothing in her crate not even a towel or old shirt. She seems fine with it though and seems to enjoy her crate.
Should I still be investing in money trying to buy her bedding that she might like? |

| A couple of pups do this.
The theory tends to be that because they can't "escape" the heat generated by the bed they tend to destroy it.
It could also be simply out of boredom and that is the only object within distance to take it out on.
I personally tend to think it is indeed the "too hot" theory.
We us loose blankets or towels they can bunch up and kick into a free corner if they get too hot and have never had an issue.
Ripley still sleeps on the blanket Tori gave her every day and sometimes it's pushed up by her head so she can use it as a impromptu Pillow, and other times she leaves it at the bottom of her crate to use it as bedding.

| My boy doesn't like anything in his crate either. He's fine with sleeping on a bed all day and all night but if it's in his crate he will destroy it. We don't use a crate for our boy anymore since he no longer needs it but back when we did use it he was only happy with nothing in it but a toy and/or treats. _________________ |

| I just use a plain ol' "walmart" towel for Juneau. I wash it weekly. I always lay it flat in there but she just bunches it up at the front of the crate and uses it as a pillow. I thought she didn't like it, so I took it out one night. She started whining real bad when I was falling asleep. I went back down there and gave it back! She slept peacefully. They like cold surfaces! She always lays on the tile to take a nap. |

| Thanks for the feedback. I did think it was too hot for her because when we got her it was during the summer so she might not have liked the pillow being in her crate. We haven't tried a towel, although she has one, I'm afraid to wake up to find it in pieces because it seems anything (cloth) in her crate she will chew to pieces. She also LOVES to sleep on the bed with us and will sleep all night and sometimes when she's too hot will move to her crate. She hasn't been too bad about chewing the blankets and sheets although I have woken up to find the corners of the pillow cases chewed off. We yelled at her for doing it and now she has stopped.
Maybe she doesn't need anything in her crate. |
