| Is it possible for me to be allergic to one of my huskies, but not the other? I always assumed it was the fur... and the fir should be the same...right?
I started sneezing like 2000% more often since oakley moved into the house. I know that its cold/flu season, but this definitely feels like allergies. i have mever had this issue with keeonah, so it's got me stumped! |

| I am allergic to dogs and it's not actually their fur that you are allergic to. You can be allergic to their dander (flaky dead skin), saliva or urine. Here is more info on it if you are interested:

Husky fur is different between them. My two have different type of fur one is sleeker the other has a softer fur it is kind of curly also. If you think about it the woolies have alot more fur and it is different that the sleeker or in between fur huskies. |

| It could be something on Oakley's fur and perhaps a bath would help?
I'm very allergic to dogs (level 4 out of 4) and the first few weeks of each dog moving in were the worst. After that, it got better. Now I still get stuffed up if I don't take my allergy meds on time but I'm less allergic to huskies than the other dogs I transport for rescue.
My allergist said to wash the dogs once a week for four weeks, then once a month after that. It definitely helps (he says it reduces allergens by 89% - and he would know, he wrote a book on allergies!)! Plus, we have allergy covers on the pillows, comforter and mattress and the dogs aren't allowed on the bed or sofa. We also vacuum at least once a day. It seems to get worse for me during times of high pollen, etc but all of these things plus Sudafed and Claritin keep it manageable. |
