Dying fur Empty
PostSubject: Dying fur    Dying fur EmptyThu Oct 25, 2012 3:27 pm

Has anyone dyed their dogs fur before? I was debating turning Kodah orange for Halloween. Or maybe just her tail. I've heard to use kool-aid or food coloring. Does anybody who has used these know if they rub off on furniture/carpet or anything? Any input helps!

I knew a girl that I went to Vet Tech school with that dyed her poodle orange and green for Halloween. She regretted it to say the least. She used the kool-aid; she was a gross greeny orangey puke color for about a month afterward. Shocked

I saw an actual dog spray on color at I think Michaels the other day.

There was a lady that was arrested on animal cruelty for dying her poodles hair, so look for laws in your area.

Brooke was it just because the two colors mixed / bled together that she didn't like it? Or something else? Because I just wanted to do kodahs tail orange. Just to see how it goes. And shawna how do you find laws like that? Do you know where this lady lived? I would never hurt my baby and trust me if I can't find a safe way to do this I won't. Just thought it would be cute if I could pull it off.

I did a quick Google search and found this article about a woman in Florida being fined for dying her poodle's paws pink...

I saw that too Kim. I also saw an article saying that ban (dyeing animal fur) was lifted. The reason it was put into place in the first place was because people were dyeing rabbit, chickens, ducks, dogs, cats, etc to make them cute so people would buy them. Then a few months later (when the dye wore off) the animals would end up In shelters. So the law wasn't an issue of cruelty but became that once owners started dyeing their pets.

She didn't like it because her white poodle was puke color for a month after Halloween. She bathed her about 4 times a week to try to get it all to come out, but it had to "wear" off. Just thought I'd mention that whatever you dye might be there for longer than you want it lol Her tail might be orange till December lol

Well I understand that. I won't try mixing colors. But who knows. I haven't totally decided yet..

I am in Jacksonville, and did some more research and from what I see it is still illegal.
People were using toxic dyes that were hurting the dogs, the link above obviously wasn't a toxic dye, but there are other articles on it.

As long as it is pet safe I wouldn't see any harm in it, I just wanted to bring that up so you were informed. Smile
