Was just wondering. My little 5month old Buddy had a bad encounter with a 9 month old shepherd which was almost twice his size a few days ago. The Shepherd came bounding into the park acting aggressive towards my husky. Buddy outran him.. with his ears tucked down and his short legs flying away. But are huskies generally faster? or was my husky just more fit than that Shepherd. lol

Huskies are very fast, my female can outrun every dog at the park lol

Shepherds may have a longer stride but I'd be inclined to think Sibs are quicker with the number of strides.

Huskies are running dogs so normally they have to be faster. In th ementioned case it could have been fear, in fear a body is capable of many things.
Also most of the Shepherds I met did not have the best stamina

I would say huskies as well. I have seen Tika run circles around the dogs at the park, Shepard's included. She is 99% of the time the front of the pack. She's constantly getting comments like whoa she's fast!!

The only dog I have seen that is faster than a husky is a whippet.
My first husky Casey would chase and chase, never quite catching her.
Then she would tire, and Casey would catch her because he had better stamina.

Yep, huskies. Kody is FAST!!! Never has a dog caught up to him at the park.

Kale's the slowest! Hahaha! He's always trailing behind, course he has a gimp shoulder so he doesn't count...

Steele would rather watch people run and then intercept them rather than chase them. He's a giant lug. Brains over brawn in his book, even if he is huge. Jenna, on the other hand, is incredibly fast. The one day she went to the dog park I got several comments about how fast she was. And she wasn't even running full speed.

So I'd def. say husky. Shepherds may be able to sprint and have a longer stride, but huskies are made to run.

My 6 y.o. GSD Diamond is just a little bit slower than 20 month old Husky Mika. But Diamond does not have the stamina that Mika has, but she is very just a little slower and i was very impressed by her. Mika is my fastest husky.

Siku can run faster than Elara. I've only seen a greyhound and an afgan hound run faster than Siku. It was pretty funny seeing the afgan catch up with her. She's not used to dogs being able to catch her and she freaked out! lol. She clearly was not expecting it.

Adobo's favorite chase was with a greyhound, the greyhound was so much faster then Adobo but would slow down enough to keep the chase interesting. Every time we go to the dog park I keep hoping they come back.

Appa is just a big slow Mal. Even when he butt-tucks and runs hes not the king of speed. I think he's fast until we go to the dog park and see whippets, vizslas, and other sight-hounds do their thing.

I couldn't judge a GSD's speed. The ones around here won't play, they just bark and stare at their owners. I used to get excited when I saw a GSD at the park for Appa to play with. Not anymore - none of them have EVER played.

I had two retired racing greyhounds, they were beauty in motion, made to run! I loved watching them go! Balon is fast, but I do not think he is as fast as they were.

My friends GSD can't catch maya, she's pretty fast. The only dogs that can outrun her at the dog park are the greyhounds.

I was at the dog park a couple weeks ago and Nikko made friends with a GSD and when they ran together Nikko outran her by far! Although she was a bit smaller than Nikko is

The Siberian is a dog that was bred to run, herding dogs aren't necessarily built for speed. I would guess that a well conditioned Siberian would out run and outlast even a well conditioned GSD.

My sister in Laws GSD is about 2-3 weeks younger than Onyx and when they were chasing each other in the yard, Onyx would catch him in no time...let him get away then chase him again. On my side I don't even think its close for a Husky Vs GSD.

Siberians were bred to run, but they were bred for endurance not so much for speed. Alaskan huskies are bred for speed. That said, I still think Siberians in general can probably outrun the average GSD. My sibe has never been outrun by any GSD for speed. Only dog that has ever matched my sibe for speed is the rhodesian ridgeback and of course other sibes. I've not met a dog besides the ridgeback that can run faster than my boy, but I know he's no match for dogs like the greyhound and whippet.

I would think that since sibes were born to run, they would likely be able to beat the average GSD. Usually when we take Luna to the dogpark, she is easily able to outrun the other dogs. The only instance where she was outrun was a few weeks ago when someone brought their greyhound by. My oh my could that puppy fly!

hmm okay. thanks for the input. thats what i thought too. huskies seem way faster than shepherds. I did google it up though and some sources say german shepherds are faster in a short sprint
