| Ive noticed lately alot of people seem to get huskies and after things start failing they watch videos online and expect thier husky to act like a german shepherd. Which brings up the question of why did you get a husky instead of a german shepherd. Your husky will never be one just like you dont see german shepherds pulling sleds.
Expect stubborn refusals. Your husky is trainable but will never be a german shepherd or a heeler or a border collie. Set your expectations at husky level and you will be amazed but set your expectations at what you expect to accomplish with a shepherd or a heeler and all you get is frustration and disappointment.
Most animals fall into this. You wouldnt expect a good steak from a dairy cow or a clydesdale to be an Olympic show jumper or a shetland pony to win the kentucky derby. Yes there are exceptions but those are a fluke not a normal thing.
When you have a pure bred animal, that animal was bred for a specific purpose. Exeptions aside that animal will do what it is bred to do and your wishes really dont matter at that point. Horses end up at the auction all the time for this reason and dogs get ditched at animal shelters. I just wish people would research what they are getting into before they go buy or adopt the wrong animal.
And those are not huskies on game of thrones. They arnt wolfdogs or wolves but they are causing a huge number of huskies to get abandoned at animal shelters. Which then are adopted by the wrong person and end up returned multiple times. After so many returns the dog is usually deemed unadoptable and then euthanized. And its not the dogs fault it the fault of someone who adopted the wrong breed and the animal shelter who didnt vet the adopter because they want to get the dogs out as fast as possible and arnt so concerned about them getting adopted by the right person.
I used to help 4h kids find horses at the track. I also helped teach them to retrain a racehorse. And they helped around the barn cleaning stalls. One girl it took me over a year to find her the right horse. A dog is the same there is the perfect dog out there for every person. It takes time not something on a whim. But it also takes some self truths about what you can and cant handle, and your lifestyle. If the dog doesnt fit your lifestyle its over before it even starts.
Im done ranting now |

| < excuse me, let me move your soapbox over a little > I had to go looking and it seems as if the Game of Thrones dog are Northern Inuit dogs - a crossbred group of dogs that include GSD's, Sibes and whetever else might make a "wolf looking" dog. Now, @lostmaniac I really can't fault you at all for your comments - I get so tired of seeing so many 'pretty' dogs show up at the shelters, knowing that in a week or so most of them are going to be killed because there are more dogs than places for them. < nuff said, I'll move my soapbox over for the next person > _________________ “Properly trained, a man can be dog’s best friend.” Corey Ford . |
