Last night when Pippa was chewing on an antler she walked to the door like she wanted to go out. I had taken her out less than 5 minutes before, but I always figure better safe than sorry, so I got up to let her out. Before I could get to the door she had pooped by the door and about half of it was very loose.

When she went out again before bed she pooped again and it was even looser. I gave her a tablespoon of pumpkin and she went to bed. She woke me up whining around 4 am which she hasn't done once in the 2 months I've had her. I got up, took her out, and her stool was very loose and watery. I gave her another spoonful of pumpkin with her breakfast.

She didn't poop again today until this afternoon and it was very solid and seemed normal. But when I took her out a few hours later, and again just now, the stool was very loose.

Her diet has been the same for the two months I've had her and she hasn't gotten into anything that I've seen. She's eating and drinking normally and her behavior hasn't changed. How long would you all wait before taking her into the vet?

For diarrhea wait 24 hours but make sure they have plenty of water to drink. Its not so much the loss of food it the dehydration that goes with the bowel movements.

She's drinking plenty, I'd say more than normal even. I scheduled a vet appointment for this afternoon though, so we'll see.

I would say typically 24-36 hours after they ate something that upset their tummy, they should go back to normal stools. Make sure you do not give her anything new as far as treats or food and see how she does. As Len says, make sure she has access to lots of water, and make sure she is drinking lots of water in the meantime. If she has not corrected herself within that time period, I'd take her to the vet to make sure there isn't anything else wrong. If she checks out, you might want to mix her current food with a little bland diet to help ease her tummy or give her some plain yogurt (with active cultures) which will help promote the healthy bacteria in her digestive tract.

Anna had loose stool for over a week. We took her to the vet and she kept telling me she probably just got into something. And they put her on the medicine for diarrhea. It didn't get any better until a couple of days later after the diarrhea medicine was all gone. She was fine the whole time besides the constant loose stools. Also there was no way she got into something. She isn't outside alone because we live in an apartment and she usually never leaves my side. So I don't know if you have had any major change in your household but my boyfriend and I assumed her upset was that we started school and she wasn't used to it.

Jasper has loose stool randomly. Some days it's fine some days it's a little loose. It's hardly ever really runny but it's very soft.

We just found out whipworm is going around our neighborhood so we are planning on having him checked. Because even if they don't eat anything they can get infected from licking there paws that can have the eggs on them. THe eggs can live up to 3 years in the ground
