I just took Yuki to the vet today and got her latest shots. The vet said she looked fine and healthy and was up to date on everything, but today when she pooped I saw them - moving writhing white worms. I'm 99% sure she has roundworms. I'm not sure how she got them, is it possible that she wasn't treated as a pup? Or when do they get treated? Anyway shes going straight back to the vet first thing tomorrow morning, I have work at 11 so hopefully they can get me in before then Only question I have left is are roundworms highly contagious? If so, my eskimo might have them too, although he might have been treated for them. He's completely done with his shots (7 months old now) but should I bring in a sample of his stool as well and have them check both pups?

I think Sabaka still had a few come out after three treatments. Did he start heartworm meds? Some of those (Heartgard Plus for sure) kill roundworms as well. If he had a heartworm treatment and the roundworms are being expelled it is likely that the meds are doing their job!

Ohhh might be! Yuki was given iverheart on September 11th (which is only a heartworm preventive). I just got to the vet today and realized she needed her meds, so she was given Trifexis today on October 19th, which is what I give Cloud once a month. Trifexis is a chewable tablet that kills fleas and prevents infestations, prevents heartworm disease, and treats and controls intestinal parasite infections including hookworm, roundworm, and whipworm. So is the medication doing its job then? (totally forgot it protected against worms too)

Callie got worms after being dewormed! They were little white moving things and it was gross. I don't remember which kind but the vet said she to it from eating a flea or eating something that ate a flea blah blah. Take a stool sample with you to the vet. They'll send it off and figure out exactly what type it is and make sure nothing else is going on. Do it even if she just had her fecal done. Callie literally had her fecal like a week before and it came back fine. Another quick deworming will take care of it though the heartworm preventative might too.

If Cloud is regularly given Trifexis, I would think he is protected from the roundworms. I also think that if you are seeing worms, either Yuki has a serious parasite problem (which I doubt) or the ones he has are dying and coming out because of the dose of Trifexis.

I think you should call your vet in the morning and confirm what we are saying. My guess is that the vet will not need to see him and at the most he will ask for a stool sample at your convenience.

I'm going to call the vet tomorrow, they open at 9am, and I want to see if they'll let me bring in a stool sample for both. Cloud has no signs of worms in his stool, and he's never had signs of worms up until now. He was given Trifexus on August 23rd and September 23rd, but since Yuki had the roundworms I gave Cloud his trifexus a couple days early and now he's had his 3rd pill on October 19th. My vet had mentioned to me to bring in a stool sample next time Yuki was in, but that is November 9th and I don't wanna wait that long. I actually thought the roundworm was just something she ate first but then it started moving and I was like O.O RUN AWAY!!!!

Most people think dogs get worms from eating Lord knows what from the ground and other unappetizing ways, but the #1 reason is fleas. As small as a flea is they carry the eggs then pass them along when they bite your pets.

The little white ones that look kind of like maggots in poop are probably tapeworms rather than roundworms. (Actually, it's pieces of the tapeworm that is still in the digestive tract, which is why they are sometimes seen and sometimes not and often missed when the vet does a fecal). Tapeworms aren't in the roundworm family, so they aren't killed by dewormers that kill roundworms. You will want to ask your vet for the proper medication.

When I first got Yuki the breeder told me they had a small bout of fleas and that she was given frontline for it, but could she have been infected this whole time for the past month or maybe she picked it up outside? I know there are other dogs that live nearby so I'm wondering if a flea could've jumped on her during a walk that may have come off another dog or from the ground. She has trifexus so she should be protected now but that could've been it.

They don't look like maggots, they're long and think, some were thicker than others cause there were a few, and they look like pieces of spaghetti. It just turned 9 so I'm calling my vet now to see about taking a sample in.

The vet suggested bringing in a sample to rule out any other types of parasites, as well as bringing in a sample from my other pup to make sure he didnt get it as well. My mom told me that Yuki did her business about 7am today so I'll be lucky if I'm able to get a sample from her before 10am as I have work at noon today. I don't think thats gonna happen so I'll probably have to take a sample in monday.

Update for today. My mom said that earlier today while I was at work there were a lot of worms in her stool, but by the time I got home there was no sign of them. As predicted, Yuki nor Cloud were nice enough to give me a sample this morning, but I'm still taking in stool for both of them Monday to make sure the worms are actually dying in Yuki, and to rule out any other type of parasite infestation in either of them. Hoping for *good* results, thanks for all your replies ^-^
