| Greetings everyone! I'm a newbie to the forum and I'm looking for some advice! My Wife and I - after extensive research - are getting a Husky pup! We found someone nearby who has a small litter of beautiful pups. Both the parents are from very good blood lines, and both parents have AKC/Show quality coat lengths. This little guy (below) is the pup we are looking at. He has a light copper coat and his temperament is wonderful, but his coat is noticeably thicker than his brothers. He has some guard hairs on his tail and bum, but not as many as his brothers. The breeder was very candid with me about this and said that this pops up occasionally (even in quality lines) and sometimes it turns out to be longer haired, and sometimes after the first shedding it happens to be less noticeable (but will certainly have slightly thicker hair than normal). This pup is 8 weeks old; does he look like a dead ringer for a wooly? I honestly wouldn't mind having a husky with longer hair than a show dog, but I don't prefer the huskies that have wild, long, boarder collie-esque hair (personal preference! ) Anyone have an opinion on this lil bugger? Is he a wooly? Thanks in advance! Ryan |

| I would pin the pup as having longer than normal fur... Can't really tell if they will be a full out wooly until they're a bit older. But I would bet on a longer haired dog. _________________ Force Free Training ThreadCheyenne, Mishka, Mickey, Rodeo, & Odin Are you a Husky owner in South Florida?! Join our facebook meetup group! |

| Welcome, im not sure any of us can tell you if he will be a Wooly, you know who might be able to tell you....the breeder. the breeder should know from past litters if any of those pups have been woolys, if so then one of those parents carry that gene and then there is a chance this boy could be a wooly. It seems from what she told you that she is not even sure if he will be a wooly. when you say they have good blood lines and coats, have the parents been health checked for their hips and eyes, have you seen that they have passed? a good breeder would have that info to share with you. if you have fallen for him get him and take your chance, if not keep looking for a shorter haired husky pup, or adopt one, that way you know what your getting. _________________ |

| Like Jenn said, there's a chance that the parents carry the genes. Ask the breeder about past litters from each parent. I believe wooly is a recessive gene so if he is wooly, both parents would have to be carriers of the gene. Remember your Punnet Squares, Big B little b. Carriers would be Bb x Bb and have a 25% chance of producing a wooly. If you can get a hold of the pedigrees, that will tell a lot more. If this is the first mating between the pair, and none of the breeders other adults have the gene, it is possible that the breeder hasn't come across a wooly yet. That would just mean that neither of your boy's parents have mated with other wooly carriers or at least, they didn't win that 25% chance.
Of course, there is a possibility that he's not wooly and just a little fluffy! |

| I think he could go either way, time will tell if he's a wooly or not. _________________ |

| I can't say for sure if he is a wooly, but I can say that's exactly what my wooly looked like when she was little. |
