Nicky is a licker dog! Drives me nut's, because I hate it when dog's lick me. What drives me even more crazy is that she's developing this disgusting habit of licking other dog's in the mouth! She does it ALL the time at home to my older Dalmatians and especially at the dog park (never to smaller dogs). She especially does it to really big dog's that have drool coming out of their mouth and she just loves it and it completely grosses me out! Not sure if it's a submission thing or what, but I try to stop her and she just keep's going back for more.

Does anyone else have a dog that does this?
Know why she's doing it?
and how to stop it?

I've heard that dogs do this as a submission as you've queried just now.

I wouldnt know how to get her out of it, but I agree licking other dogs in the mouth especially big drooly dogs is rather off putting.

Kelly oh yes my lab does this, and Balon and Ruby lick each others mouths all the time. PLUS Ruby the lab is a big time licker, she will literally give you a bath, it doesn't both me or my sons but my husband hates it like you. We keep telling her no, but she is just a licker.

We believe that Balon is the alpha here, Ruby is pretty submissive. BUT they both lick each others mouths so not sure why?

Adobo & Biko are mouth lickers to each other also. They do it most often after a good play/fight like if they were kissing and making up

TIka licks Ripley's ears clean. We dont know why she started but it has helped keep them clean! She really gets in there too, and Chris wonders why I hate it when she licks me and get grossed out when he lets her lick his face.....
Rip doesn't lick too much, other dogs, she generally just ignores so its a non issue with her.

This is actually a natural behavior in wolf pups. They will lick the mouths of adult wolves to stimulate the adults to regurgitate their food so that the pups can eat. Facial licking is also a sign of submission.
