| I have a 2 year old husky, Roscoe, who has started to become a pain. I acquired him when he was 6 months old and immediately enrolled him in obedience training. He has been a very good pup up until this point and I think the new environment is requiring him to take his obedience to the next level and he is struggling with it. I do not have the best living environment for him, but it is not terrible. I live in an apartment, but it is pretty spacious; 2 story. He also has 2 other dogs to play with here. Since I have moved to this new place he has been having lots of accidents inside, has run out of the door multiple times, and he does not come when called. A summary of most of the issues can be detailed in today's series of events. I took all of the pups to the dog park here at the complex which is fenced off on three sides, one side open to water. I knew he would attempt to jump in the water so I figured it would be a good learning moment for him. We got to the dog park and after playing with him a little while I let him play with the other dogs, only two other dogs were there, and left his long leash on. He immediately made a B-line to the water and I grabbed the leash and gave him a firm no along with attempting to show him I did not want him in the water. We did this 3 times and I figured OK he looks like he understands now. Let him lose one more time and he swan dives into the lake I had to jump in behind him to get him out because wants he;s in there he will stay in there in order to stay away from me and play. That is just a recent event, if anyone needs any more information I'll be glad to answer but I have already typed a book and I'd like to spare readers. |

| How is his exercise level? Does he get walked regularly? Does he have a set routine? Sounds just like a bottled up Husky. We lived in a 1 bedroom apartment and had Mickey and Cheyenne as a puppy there. Home size has really not much to do with it- the exercise component does. What I would suggest is set a routine that you can handle and that is beneficial to him. If you don't crate I would probably try to implement that or go back to that if he's familiar with it. Sounds just like a dog who needs direction. Unfortunately not recalling and taking off for open water or taking advantage of an open door is a breed thing. They love to escape and run. _________________ Force Free Training ThreadCheyenne, Mishka, Mickey, Rodeo, & Odin Are you a Husky owner in South Florida?! Join our facebook meetup group! |

| Sounds like he is being an ornery young adult. What kind of training system are you using if I may ask? Also- how does he do on walks (does he pull/walk next to you/ loose lead)? Do you have any other examples of his behavior as of late? I don't think it's the apartment living, personally; 2 months to adjust and he's acting out when he's not in the apartment as well. A few more answers, and myself and others will be able to get a more clear picture of what might be the proper solution |

| Training system is your ordinary special treat for good behavior type. He does not pull when we walk, on a lose lead he will always walk until the leash has no slack.
I take him on about 4 walks a day. 2 of which are about 20 mins long and the others very but are about a mile to 2 mile walks. I used to take him running with me but he just trips me up lol.He also play fights with the other dog all day long aswell |

| Hm. Sounds like he gets a lot of exercise throughout the day. I'd look into NILIF (Nothing In Life Is Free) training. You don't have to incorporate all the aspects of it, but the basics such as working for food and not getting anything without looking to you first is a must. Also I find that dogs that work out puzzles and do more mental activities tend to not misbehave as much. Whenever my Husky Kale starts getting ornery, I usually give him a puzzle toy that involves food and that keeps him busy for a while. |
