| Looks like I'll be fostering the Husky in OK in a week or two! I've never fostered before and do have some questions.
1. I've never introduced an adult dog into my home and not sure how I should go about doing it without starting anything with the other dogs. Should I do this at the dog park?
2. He was just neutered last week and since I have other male dog's in my home and marking may happen, what would be the proper way of addressing this? My dog's do not mark, but the foster dog may.
3. I've tried contacting local rescues to see if they would be willing to do a courtesy listing, but haven't heard back from anyone. What ways do you go about advertising a dog? |

| The only thing I could possibly help with would be number 3. rescueme.org will allow you to post up about him and of course, take advantage of your social media networks. Post to facebook and ask for shares. Maybe start an email thread. Ask your local vets and pet stores if you can post up a flyer. I've seen a lot of places is my area doing adoption events this time of year. Maybe see if any vets/pet stores/rescues are doing those and will let you know if you can bring him in hopes of finding him a home. And keep pestering those rescues. I'm sure they'll do courtesy listings. Have you contacted Tails of the Tundra? I think they work all the way down to VA. |

| When we brought Ghost and Lulu to Chicago last year, we had my dad bring their dog to the local park and meet us there so the three dogs could interact on neutral ground. That worked out really well for us, and we had no problems the whole time we were there.
As far as the other 2 questions, I really don't know anything about marking, and as Shae said post flyers and on the internet. Just be ready to super screen potential adopters. Are there any all breed type rescues up there? We have a group called the Junior Humane Society here that keeps all their dogs in foster homes and then brings them to adoption events as well as keeps them on a website. Good luck! _________________ Shadow's Blog Canine Hydrocephalus Support on Facebook "Being the parent of a special-needs pet means living your life constantly poised on the edge of a double-edged sword. | Hey Kelly, We adressed a few of these when we got Ripley, we actually did meet up in a dog park, but that was to meet halfway and let them run around and get to meet eachother. What we do when we have a new dog in our home for a visit is we let them in the backyard, and once ours stop freaking out, we let out Tika and let her sniff and meet, the we let out Big Bertha for the meet. She is more dominant so we put her out once the dog is more at ease with Tika. There is a normal 10 minutes or so of working out the pecking order but eventually they figure it out and adjust accordingly. For the second, we had a rescue (male) in our home that had recently been snipped and he marked outside only. Since your dogs dont mark inside, I wouldnt be too worried about it. If he is housebroken chances are he wont do anything. Unless hes REALLY trying to make a point. For the last we contacted a rescue and they had agreed to post a courtesy listing before we picked her up, we wanted to make sure we had that available to us should Ripley not be the right dog for our family (she was, but whatever.....lol) I would keep calling or emailing until you get a reply. As well you can talk to local trainers, sometimes they have contacts with rescue groups. We spoke with our pet supply store as they are affiliated with a rescue near us and they helped us get in touch. Good luck with the new guy! Kelly _________________ Is this about the cake problem? | If you letter from your vet saying that you're rehoming the dog and take good care of them, etc - you can get a login on petfinder.com. It's been an awesome source of adopters for our rescue! Thank you for fostering, it's one of the most important things homeless dogs need! |

I've fostered as many as 10 or more dogs, here's my advice. Meeting on neutral territory is best. Dog park is great or a leashed walk in a park. Try to be home and monitor their play and contact for a few days before leaving them unattended. Feed separately and pay close attention to toy and bones for resource guarding issues. - Hayden_69 wrote:

If he's housebroke he probably won't be an issue. I have had it happen with a newly neutered dog before though. Thoroughly clean the area with a non ammonia based cleaner. Don't scold the dog but rather handle it like a housebreaking training exercise. - Hayden_69 wrote:

Good advice about FB and flyers. Most rescues should do courtesy listings and may even allow you to attend an adoption outreach. I would call if email isn't getting you an answer. Most rescues have FB pages and that can be a contact as well. Get an adopt me bandana or vest from online and put it on when you are out an about, like at petsmart or the dog park, word of mouth works wonders. |
