2. Read the Stickies and Announcements. Each sub-forum may have specific rules which trump the Forum Rules in cases where there may be conflicting information. Read the rules of each board before you post so that you are clear on the expectations of the staff.
3. Respect ALL Staff and Admins. These people volunteer of their time and MUST be respected as well as their word adhered to. They are responsible for maintaining a free, open, clear and organized forum. Anyone found to be openly undermining any official ruling by a staff member will be warned.
4. Signatures: One picture only and no links. Images: To keep the forum looking neat and tidy, we ask that members insert just one picture only in their signatures. The picture should be no more than 200x500 pixels and should be of an appropriate subject, for example, your dogs and their names. Should you need assistance creating an appropriate signature, please PM an Admin and we would be happy to help! This is to ensure that signatures remain a welcome addition to our forum instead of a cumbersome distraction. PostSubject: I hope it's not allergies!   I hope it's not allergies! EmptyTue Sep 11, 2012 8:06 am

Hi all,
I'm looking for some input here. My 9 month old and I spend a lot of time in the forest. We went yesterday and he came home happy and tired after a play session with his best friend a two year old boxer.

He is still eating normally but he woke up and looked/sounded like he had to sneeze but couldn't. Then he started aggressively rubbing his nose. All night he has been waking me up and running his nose obviously in a lot of discomfort. This morning when I had a good look at him his eyes, especially the left one are pretty much shutting.

He was in the water yestrday and was swimming in a spot with some alge. Don't know if that matters but it's all I can think of.

Any advice or ideas would help!
Thank you!

It does sound like allergies. Have you tried bathing him to remove any of the allergens he may have come in contact with? Or Benadryl to help alleviate the symptoms?

I know his ears aren't an issue right now, but please get a few cotton balls soaked in 1/2 parts water and 1/2 parts vinegar. Or 1/2 water and 1/2 vinegar. It will help yeast from forming.

I do agree though, it does sound like allergies.

Yes it is. It's about 1mg per pound of weight of the dog. My vet actually recommended it when Dakota got stung on the nose and her muzzle swelled up. We have Children's liquid Benadryl that we use but the pills work as well as long as they can be cut if necessary.

My greyhound took benadryl in the spring for allergies, her ears would get all red and itchy, really helped her too!

I'm wondering about allergies too, my guy has been scratching and I know he doesn't have fleas, we gave him some benadryl today and it has totally helped him he hasn't been itchy all day so far. I'm wondering if I should go see a vet to figure out what it's to or just give him benadryl. But good luck with your guy!
