| Hi Everyone, I am new the this forum and also a new pup owner! My dogs name is Mason and he is 15 weeks old. He has always had itchy itchy skin. No fleas, only bathed twice. Once before I got him and once after I got him. He was oringially on grain free blue buffalo puppy chicken. He was itchy constantly and the vet told me to give benedryl. Two weeks made no difference. I switched him to Taste of the Wild pacific stream flavor puppy food with some salmon oil. The same day i used a conditionor/cologne on him. That night he broke out in hives. I continued with the benedryl and rinsed him with cold water and contintured with the food. Almost two weeks later the hives are still there. I've read its extremely rare for a pup to be allergic to any fish based foods but I'm thinking maybe thats not the problem. Has anyone else seen intense allergies or skin reactions in their huskies and suggestions to treat the hives? |

| Sorry you both are going through this. Did your pup have any issues while at the breeders? Was he fine when you brought him home?
Perhaps you could try to go back to feeding what the breeder fed to see if it makes any difference.
Can you get your pup allergy tested? I'm not sure if that is an option or if it is something they prefer not to do with puppies.
My boy cannot have fish products so I can tell you it is not out of the question for a possible fish allergy. They can be allergic to almost anything, my grandparents have a dog who is allergic to grass, no joke. _________________ |

| Brittany, I'm not going to be much help with this but we have others who are much more knowledgeable than I on this topic. We are typically very slow over the weekend, people are out with their dogs so not apt to see this right away (which is why I responded with a non-helpful answer - and Val made a liar out of me, thanks Val ) If the benadryl isn't helping then I'm going to suggest that you've got more going on than fleas (which you'd see if they were there, right?) If he does have an allergy, which given what you've said so far is likely, then putting anything on him is apt to exacerbate the situation. You've probably seen the recommendation for rice and chicken for upset tummies, since this might be a food allergy, I'd consider putting him on a rice and chicken diet for 2 - 4 days and see if the situation (begins to) clear up. _________________ “Properly trained, a man can be dog’s best friend.” Corey Ford . |

| If it is a food allergy it can take 4-6 weeks on a new food for the allergy to work through. My white male is very allergic to "things", chicken being one, to the point that he chews giant sores all down his back.
Is he also very itchy or are you just seeing skin spots without the excessive itching? I have a medicated shampoo called trizchlor4 and it works great to lessen the itch and heal sores. I got it on Amazon. I also have the wipes and use those to wipe him down when he comes in from outside as he is allergic to something else. If you can do an allergy test that will get you answers the fastest. _________________ |

| I would try a rice and chicken diet like aljones recommended and see if it calms down. If you don't see an improvement in a few weeks, consider things like the environment. Do you use any air fresheners or furniture cleaning sprays? Some of those can be really irritating to a dog's skin. My pup can't be around Febreeze or she gets red welts everywhere. |
