I have a 2 year old Husky that I got about a week ago from a breeder that took her back when the family that had her, couldn't keep her anymore. When she was with her previous owner, she was outside in the yard while they were away, me living in the city, this isn't really an option. I have a yard, but I wouldn't feel comfortable leaving her outside.
I got her on a Saturday, and was with her until I went back to work on Tuesday morning. I have a crate for her, and hoped that she would have no problem with it. Boy, was I wrong. Monday afternoon, I left for an hour, putting her in the crate, which she seemed ok with at the time. She had a couple toys, and a treat in the crate with her. When I left, I could hear her start barking/ whining/ crying, I sat outside in silence for a bit until it stopped (about 5 minutes) . When I returned, the plastic tray on the bottom of the crate was in about 100 pieces, and the frame of the metal crate was bent.
She was very happy and bouncing all over the place when I walked in to the house. We went outside and played for a bit, calmed down and went back in the house.
The same thing happened the next day when I went to work. Except this time she was laying down when I got back home. While I was gone though, she pulled the rug that was partially under her crate all the way in to her crate, and had it shredded.
The next day, she was actually able to escape her crate. When I got home, the house was in perfect shape, and nothing was out of place, so I made a difficult decision to leave her out in the house the next day (Friday) which proved to work good, minus the fact that she both pooped and peed in the house once. Both days, she cried and barked for some time. I would like to be able to leave her alone without her barking or doing anything wrong, and truly, have her in the crate, that she sleeps in at night, with no problem at all.
Has anybody had similar problems?
My parents have a Thundershirt for their rat terrier, and it works amazing for her in regards to loud sounds/ storms which in the past have made her shake uncontrollably. After doing some reading, I saw that it can help a lot for separation anxiety as well.
Wondering if anyone here has tried it/ had any luck with it for issues like this?

My girl has Sept anxiety very bad. We crate her during the day also. She is also two years old. The first few weeks are really hard. The key is to be consistent and you have to crate every day. If you give them a day off you have to start over. Keep putting her in the crate leaving and coming back slowly increasing the time your gone. We give our girl a Kong and a marrow bone each morning and she also wears a pheramone calming collar. If all that happened in the house was potty accidents when you left her out of the crate your lucky! Mine ate the couch and blinds off the wall! You may need to reinforce the crate or get a stronger one. Mine has escaped several times. We had to get a trainers aluminium crate for our girl for awhile. Now she back in a normal one with some modifications to keep her in. I wish I could leave my girl out in the house instead of in the crate! I have not tried the thunder shirt yet but hear they work well. Congrats on your new fur baby! And good luck. She will settle in and it will get easier.
