| Hi, I am going to view two beautiful huskies tomorrow that need rehoming. I have been speaking to their current owner all week about the personalities of the dogs etc, she says the only problem she can think of is that the male can be protective over the female sometimes as they have been together since they were pups. They are just over 1 year old. When I meet them tomorrow this is not something I will be able to 'test out' as I have no other dogs. I will be walking them often with my friends dogs and there will be other dogs in the house regularly. Has anyone experienced this? Is it worth getting a dog trainer round? Thanks |

| Would it be possible for one of your friends to go with you and bring their dog as well? That way, you can see how the huskies will interact with the other dog and hopefully avoid an unwanted situation down the line. |

| Thanks I will try that with my friends beagle (who it will have to socialise with regularly) The owner has said the male is a bit unsure but has never shown aggression towards other dogs he just needs encouraging to join in and socialise. Do you think this sounds like a big problem or something that can be overcome in time with patience? Thanks for the help |

| I think that will depend on how he deals with the beagle... if everything goes well and you're happy with the outcome, then it shouldn't really be a problem. Ask the owners if they have taken them to a leash-free dog park before. If they say they used to but stopped, ask why. The huskies that I know in my area are usually protective of their housemates (one's even super-protective of a little dachshund), but they seem to be doing great socially. |

| Honestly as long as he isn't dog aggressive about it I wouldn't worry too much as long as you regularly socialize them. Since they're still young I'd think he would grow out of it. |

| Delilah is somewhat like this with Cato - she is always watching over him and making sure no one hurts him. She does great at the dog park however and all thought she is a diva, I wouldn't label her dog aggressive, but dominant. She usually likes spending time with other dogs, but she has to let them know she is in charge.
I wouldn't worry too much, just socialize as much as you can . |

I agree I would not worry too much about the dog being protective. Blaze gets protective about Kerian at doggie day care but at the dog park he doesn"t so much.. He seems to want her all to his own at day care. |

| Thanks guys,
Haven't managed to get hold of my friends dog for today unfortunately.
There aren't any leash free dog parks around here but I'm thinking of having them in doggy day care a few times, purely for the socialisation as they have never met other dogs apart from on the lead. And I'll have to take things slow when introducing dogs into the home or taking them into my friends homes. Like you say they're still young so I'm hoping to smooth out any bad behaviours.
Can't wait to meet them today!!! |

| Titus is somewhat like that with Lycan, probably because Lycan is only 14 weeks old and Titus was mistreated previously by his breeder. He will let other dogs play with Lycan but if the other dogs are getting rough he will step in and growl. We went to a pet store about two weeks ago. The pets store lady was holding Lycan in her arms and was showing us some things. Titus let her do it. But the moment Lycan went out of sight, he growled. He only growls or whines but never try attacking. Lycan is like a little brother to him. I think that's probably the same case with your pups. |

| Hi guys, thanks for all the advice. unfortunately the dogs were a bit too much for me to handle. the owners said that they just havent had any time for them and theyve never been to any obedience training etc. I just was not able to walk two at once and they cannot be seperated. they trashed around, jumped up you name it.... for the entire hours walk. It was a shame and had it been one, I would most probably have taken it on and worked really hard to undo some of the bad behaviours. I have got previous husky experience and I know how excitable they can be but the two of them was just too much. hope they find a lovely home. I am going to see an 8 week old black and white bi-eyed female tonight called Nikiya and I absolutely cannot wait! wish me luck! |

| Sorry it didn't work out this time - at least you were aware of what your limitations were, so the dogs wouldn't have to keep moving around... It makes me mad that the previous owners obviously didn't do their homework AND they got two!! (Grrr)
Anyway, best of luck with the puppy today! |
