Forum Rules

Hello all,


Has anyone had any experience with what is called dog lip dermatitis? It is often found along the jaw line of the dog. When I googled it, it states that it often arises to dogs who have over laying folds but none of the dogs were a husky?

She is scratching it and seems to be getting worse but I am unsure if It will just clear on its own or if I need to go to the vet to get an ointment to put on it?

Any help would be greatly appreciated for my little baby:)

Our Cocker gets lip fold pyoderma, which I think is the same thing. We have antibacterial ointment that we had to get from our vet, and that clears it up for a little while. It always comes back though, so we always have to keep an eye on it. Are you sure that's what it is?

No I am not sure what it is. I just googled images of it and it looks just like the images I googled. I am just going on a guess here until I take her to the vet.

She had a weird rash thing in her ears, and the vet claimed that it was a food allergy. They gave us a topical ointment to put on it, and it cleared up right away. So I am not sure now if what is on her jaw line is from maybe a food allergy again or if it is actually a dog lip dermatitis.

Or pollen allergies. Food allergies are rare. A vet to claim that an ear rash is automatically food allergies before doing a food elimination trial is strange scratch If the medication worked and it never came back it was either contact allergies or pollen allergies.

Yes it did go away right away, like within 2 days of using it. They claimed to have us use it for 2 weeks.

That is why I am hesitant to go to the vet again for this rash on her jaw ( or whatever it is). I want to try and give it a week to see if it goes away but now it seems to be bothering her and shes scratching a lot.

PS. How do you put a pic of the puppy for username?

I agree, sounds like it could be some sort of environmental allergy. One of my girls gets pretty bad contact dermatitis on her face and head if she runs in tall grass. Wiping my dogs face and feet with an unscented baby wipe seems to cut down on the severity when pollen counts are high.

Thanks, I will try that. Start wiping her down after walk to see if it helps. She is always sneezing, so it could definitely be an environmental allergy. ( especially this time of year in WI)
