| Right now I feed Nikko 2 cups of kibble per day. 1 cup at 6am, and 1 cup around 6pm. He gets Wellness Super5mix for puppy.
I am wondering when (or if) I should increase his food intake? I weighed him today and he actually lost a couple pounds from the last time I weighed him a month ago.
I am also going to be switching his food in the next few weeks to TOTW adult formula. I have been told that they don’t need as much food if it is grain free.
Thanks

| How much does Nikko weigh? Callie's on Wellness super5 too and I pretty much follow the measurements on the bag for a 5 month old at 30lbs she's supposed to have 3 1/2 cups per day. I am about to switch her to a raw diet but for now, this has worked for her. She's gained weight as she should and is in no danger of being overweight.
Is he getting a lot of exercise? That would also mean increasing his intake.
I'm just trying to think of things here. Our lab is a year and about 80lbs and he's on the wellness too. He's supposed to be getting about the same amount of food as Callie is. (The bag only measures up to 50lbs so we just guesstimate based on the trend in the chart).
I would say at 10 months, he definitely shouldn't be losing weight so maybe try increasing his intake at least for a little while.
TOTW is better quality than wellness so that already equals feeding less. Plus the grain free will mean feeding less as well. But I think 2 cups a day on the Wellness is on the small side for a growing pup so 2 cups on TOTW should be about right. |

| Nikko’s weight at 10 months is 55lbs. I have tracked his weight from the beginning ever month, and he was gaining pretty consistently about 4-6lbs per month. He was at 42lbs @ 5 mos, 47lbs @ 6 months, 52lbs @ 7 months, then 53lbs @ 8 months and 56lbs @ 9 months.
He never seems that hungry and he gets treats on the side as well. In addition to regular playing with his little brother he also gets about 3-4 miles of walks per day.
When he was younger I was feeding him about 3 cups but he had runny poo, so I had cut down to 2 cups and his poo has been normal ever since (that was when he was about 5-6 mos old)
I was thinking of increasing it to maybe 2 ½ cups per day until his switch to TOTW adult food. That is going to happen in about 3 weeks or so when we are done with the current bag of food.

| I have noticed that since i've cut back on Callie's food due to runny stools, she has firmed up with about 2 cups a day. But Nikko's significantly larger than her, even when he was her age. I'd think 2 1/2 might be a good switch until he's on the TOTW. That's not too much more so hopefully he wont go back to runny stools.
I know there's a difference in breed here so I'm trying to take that into mind with my replies as well. I just thought since I feed Wellness, I might be helpful. Haven't seen too many others here who feed it. Nikko does get a lot more exercise than Callie and still would be even if you skipped a day or two of walking so I'd say he's a bit more active. Though huskies can work on less food so that might even it out a bit.
Callie is very spoiled with treats so I don't think that's a problem at all. Plus, treats will only help him gain a little weight.
He could be just about done growing and now holding a pretty steady weight with a pound or two of difference as the months go by. If you're really concerned, feed him more. If it's just a slight concern, see what he weighs in at next and then decide on a plan of action. I wouldn't be too concerned yet since it's only a pound difference which could easily be that last month, he has some extra water weight or a bit more fur. Maybe last month he ate just before getting weighed and this month a few hours passed in between. A lot of little things affect weight. |

| If it was me I probably would not be increasing his food intake unless he is super skinny and you can see his ribs.
Both of my Huskies are 2 years old and neither one of them weigh as much as your Nikko.
You probably have a bigger one than Kerian or Blaze.
I would watch his weight and growth over the next few months. He may have reach his full size and weight. |

| I can't feel his ribs and he doesn't look skinny to me. I took this pic the other day.
I kind of figured he might be close to his full size, although I thought Huskies keep growing past 1 year old. He was the biggest of his litter and has always been big for his age.

| If you can't feel his ribs then I wouldn't increase his food. You actually should be able to easily feel his ribs but not see them, and there should be a tuck at his abdomen. But if the ribs cannot be felt that is often a good indication that one might be feeding too much. 2 cups a day for that age is usually sufficient although amount needed will vary from individual to individual. _________________ |

| For the most part, I think most growth after 6 months-ish is more filling out. It's when he loses his puppy look and starts getting the adult build. Of course, 6 months isn't the absolute cut off and it varies by dog. But after 6 to 8 months, I'm pretty sure weight starts to even out. Definitely don't increase if you can't feel his ribs. Sorry about my earlier post. Guess huskies really eat a lot less than I had pictured. |
