Hi everyone, my name is Mauricio from Mexico City and i'm contacting you because i noticed that you guys contribute so many times in this site, so i was wondering if you can help me with my husky.

Her name is Maya and she's almost 10 months old, my problem is that she doesn't like her food to much. Her first 6 months i was giving her Eukanuba Puppy, until she doesn't want it anymore. Then i change her food to Royal Canin and she was ok for three weeks. So my final try was with science diet for puppy. She has been on Science Diet for almost two months, but i believe that this food it's not her favorite. Sometimes she has a good day and eat 3 cups in a day, and the other day she doesn't eat anything. I ask her vet and tell me that she is fine, she has a perfect weight and an excellent humor. She is very active too.

In mexico we don't have too many options for food, but i just contacted a person that can send me BB Wilderness, so i'm thinking trying this food, what do you think? Thanks for your time.

One more question, if it's ok if i try Adult Salmon Formula instead of Puppy Formula?

We feed the Wilderness Salmon and Duck. I like them both a lot and so do the dogs, even my picky one. Our 6 month old actually eats the Adult Salmon and he is growing fine, all of the ratios are the same as the puppy, the puppy simply has 2% more protein, which I don't see as a big deal because if I was feeding a non-high protein diet, I would be feeding way less than 34% protein (BBW Salmon). He is doing great on it. It has a very low CA:P ratio and the fat:protein ratio is optimal for puppies. On a previous thread, Claudia (one of the nutrition gurus) helped me decide that it was appropriate, I am hoping she will chime in.

Hmm well, my full grown 2 year old female eats about 1.75 -2 cups as far as calories go. I used the puppy food guidelines for Cato - the calorie content is very similar.

Delilah eats 1 c. of BBW in the morning and .75 c. of Grandma Lucy's pureformance in the evening.

Cato eats - 1.5 c. of BBW in the morning and 1 c. of Grandma Lucy's Pureformance in the evening.

Thanks Megan, you've been very helpful. What would choose to giver her first? Duck or Salmon? She's to picky!

Salmon. It's got a fishy smell so she may go for it first. Otherwise, don't feed into her finicky habits. If she won't eat pick it up after 15 - 20 minutes and then feed her dinner later. When she is hungry she will eat.

Yes, Blue Buffalo Wilderness Salmon seems to be OK for puppies compared to their puppy formula. The Ca:P ratio is 1.44:1 which on the high side but is still OK I think. Comparing the calories per cup, the puppy formula has about 20 more calories per cup and says to feed anywhere between 2-4 cups per day depending on the weight of your puppy. Typically the feeding guidelines on the bags are on the high side, so you may want to start out with 2 to 2.5 cups per day and adjust up if she's dropping weight when she's supposed to be gaining, or feed less if she's gaining too much weight. You can adjust food up or down accordingly with about 1/4 c per day and see how she does.

At 10 months old I wouldn't be so concerned with the ratios for growing puppies as your pup won't be doing all that much growing from this point on. I think you'd be perfectly fine feeding the adult formula.

How much does Maya weigh currently? That will also factor into how much to feed as a 30 lb female obviously won't need as much as a 50 lb female.
