| Our husky was eating Costco's Kirkland puppy food, but then we got orders to Italy so needed to change his food since there is no Costco. He was on Eukanuba puppy, but started throwing it up. Then we switched to Nutro natural choice chicken and rice because they carried it on base. That too started tearing up his stomach. We put him on Taste of the Wild and he did really great with it for about a year, then started having problems with it too. He started to get flakey skin and then broke out into a rash. He also started having problems with crystals about the same time.
We switched him to Blue Buffalo about 5 weeks ago now. He threw up this morning though and I noticed he has mucousy stools this weekend in addition to licking his paws. He also doesn't really seem to like the food as he won't eat it unless we mix in some canned food. Due to this he has also lost some weight and is on the skinny side.
He has an appointment on Wednesday to rule anything else out, but I'm pretty sure he is having allergy problems with Blue Buffalo too. I'm sure the vet will once again recommend Science Diet, but we don't like that it's all just fillers.
The kennel we got him from is partially sponsored by Life's Abundance, so if you ask for recommendations there you get that brand as a response and attacked for feeding your dog anything other than that brand. It looks decent, but costs a small fortune to have shipped overseas. That brought me to this site and in search of some food suggestions from fellow husky owners. Obviously we might not be able to get all the U.S. stuff shipped to us, but I'd like to get something we can find in the U.S. since we don't have too much longer overseas. Diesel is just about 3 and down to 50 lbs from 55/58lbs (if that makes any difference to anyone). |

| I think it would help if you could let us know what IS available to you overseas. Personally the kibble I used to feed (and would feed again) is Acana. We tried TOTW for a while but I am not a fan- at all. Blue Buffalo is a poor quality kibble (i'm assuming it's not the wilderness variety) as well as the other kibbles you listed. If you can get your hands on Blue Buffalo Wilderness- that would be an option.
A few here feed The Honest Kitchen or Grandma Lucys which are dehydrated foods... I'm not a fan but that is an option as well. It will all depend on what you can get but brands such as Natures Variety Instinct, Orijen, Acana, Earthborn... are all brands I would consider. _________________ Force Free Training ThreadCheyenne, Mishka, Mickey, Rodeo, & Odin Are you a Husky owner in South Florida?! | Well, here on base there is a very limited selection. They have Nutro, Blue Buffalo, and then the low low end stuff like Kibbles and Bits. We have found a couple of websites like Petsmart or petfooddirect.com will ship to FPO/APO for most brands and at a price that isn't my left arm or first born, but there are a few that will say sorry cannot ship when you go to check out due to brand restrictions. Amazon usually also does pretty well with shipping, but they usually cost quite a bit more for pet supplies.
I'll just take suggestions and then do the leg work to see if the brand is one that can or cannot come to us here. |

The most common brands people of this forum tend to feed are: Taste of the Wild Orijen Blue Buffalo The Honest Kitchen Grandma Lucy's Acana It sounds like you got a picky stomach there. There are some members on the forum who have had good success going to raw with dogs who are picky eaters or who have stomach's that just can't handle other foods... It can take some time and prep on your part but it could be a solution. Kristina will have a bunch more information on this if you decide to go that route. Alternatively Grandma Lucy's and The Honest Kitchen are dehydrated raw formulas that you just add water to. They tend to be easier on some stomachs. If you want you can see what most members are feeding by checking out this thread: What Are you feeding your HuskyYou may find something that works for you there. The most up to date information can be found at the end of the thread, so you might want to work that one backwards. If / when you find a brand and want to find out more info on it feel free to check out the following decent review sites. Dog Food Advisor Dog Food Anaysis Hope it helps. ~Chris~

| Are you feeding Wilderness? Sounds to me like a bit of grain intolerance from the original blue buffalo which is still grain inclusive. We are doing great with Blue Wilderness. Both of the dogs like it and we have great stools.
Can you get the wilderness? |

| Since you think it might be an allergy problem, maybe you could try a Limited Ingredient Diet (LID) formula. Acana has 2 LID options, but there are quite a few other brands out there with LID formulas...all designed for dogs with allergies and / or sensitive stomachs |

| So when you were feeding Kirkland puppy food your dog did well on it? I'm just trying to determine whether or not grain is an issue. I know Kirkland puppy contains grain.
I'm pretty sure most exchanges carry Blue Buffalo Wilderness, I would try that over regular Blue Buffalo. You've had some other good suggestions but I don't know what will be available to you overseas. You can also get Fresh Pet refrigerated food at either the commissary or exchange but I know that can get expensive quickly. Besides those two I haven't found anything else at the exchange or commissary that I would recommend. _________________ |

| I will look today to see if they have the Wilderness formula for Blue Buffalo. The vet did recommend that we try another food for him as he is down 3 more pounds since his last UTI bout 5-6 weeks ago. I wish we could find a good food or boot this UTI issue out the door permanently so we can see what is food related vs. what is bladder symptoms since diarrhea and vomiting can be symptoms of both.
He did do well on the Kirklands, but we had him on that for only a brief amount of time. He was about 2 months old until about 8 months old then we moved overseas. A 4 month window may not have been enough time for issues to arise or an allergy to develop. |

| They had a 4 lb bag of the Salmon Wilderness, so I grabbed it and tried to mix it in to transition him. He proceeded to sort the food out and scarf down the Wilderness pieces. Most I have seen him eat in awhile, so hopefully going from their regular food to the Wilderness will really help. We also usually get chicken, so the new flavor might just have him excited. Only time will tell. |
