I've finally just decided to let Snow get on our couch. As long as I keep her nails trimmed I think it will be fine. (It's leather) And there won't be hair stuck to it so that's good. But when she gets up there she goes nuts :/ I tell her nein but she hasn't grasped that yet. And you aren't suppose to put them in the crate for punishment. So I need some advice on what to do. Is it ok to put her in her crate after telling her nein? Other options?

Not sure, someone likely has better tips than I do but if she goes crazy, tell her no and make her get off the couch until she is calm... Let her back up until she freaks out again and repeat.

If you plan on doing crate training with her, I wouldn't use it for time out even after telling her no. As Brady said, I'd tell her no and remove her from the couch. You could create a timeout location, but I wouldn't use the crate that you want to be her "home."

We've used the bathroom as the "time out" spot. Just make sure it's puppy proof. LOL

I would not use the crate because it is a positive environment. I would suggest making her get down every time she digs, but when she doesn't give her a treat, positive enforcement. Make sure you are firm with your voice saying SNOW NO, or SNOW NEIN every time she digs. Emphasize snows name first so she knows your talking to her. That's what I have done in the past. Good luck

Good suggestions! Thanks pack Will try and let you know how it goes. I figured using the crate as time out would be a no no. And we tell her nein because no sounds too close to Snow!

Personally, I wouldn't use her name when punishing. I say "no! bad dog!" or just a stern "no!" Saying her name first then something negative, in my experience, makes them flinch when you call them excitedly, or call them loudly.

We have a roughly crate sized bathroom (sad, I know) that we use as a time out spot. When Dante was a puppy he got two chances...then went to time out. Now that he is older he gets told once, then time out. Usually now he will stop what he is doing after the first "no" so he hasn't been in there in a while.

We have actually taught Sabaka "No digging" as a command. If over and over you say "No digging" while stopping him from digging, he will get it. If he's like Sabaka, he will get it... he will stop and look at you... then he will go right back to digging... then he will have to be put in time-out anyway! (We also use a small, puppy-proof bathroom - we pull out the rug, the trash and the TP as he is going in - as a time-out spot.) Actually, about half the time he will stop digging on command now. I think it just depends on how exciting the excavation! Most of our digging now occurs outside

As Brady said, just removing him from the couch might be enough punishment. When Sabaka digs outside, we just come inside. If Snow is enjoying the privilege of being on the couch, he will be sad to be removed.

We also use our bathroom for timeout, and sometimes put the leash on, and run it under the door, so that they aren't free to explore. These obviously are for 15-30 second time outs.

I also start with a "No!" as the first warning, "No! Do you need a timeout?" as the second warning, and the third offense is a timeout, assuming it isn't a major infraction.

Apparently crate sized bathrooms are popular Our guest bath is very small and at the moment we aren't using it so I can easily put a gate there and use it for timeout. And I thought I was done with timeouts (human babies) >.<

Balon digs the carpet, floors, outside dirt and grass, my pillow, basically everything lol, we are training him with the no dig to see if it works. I don't allow dogs on my couch because it is fabric and it begins to smell doggy like if you do lol, of course I could cover it, but we taught our lab she isn't allowed so neither is Balon lol.
