Maggie is making me pull my hair out. she is very skinny. Not bones sticking out skinny just leggy lol. She needs to put on weight pronto. She us so freaking picky.

I went back to TOTW, don't shoot me. This is the only kibble she will eat. Still nothing. She was okay with Satin Balls for like 3 days. She is now being a picky girl again. I tried to add stuff to her food but still she eat like a few bites.

I am at the end of this madness.

Maggie the diva needs more weight! lol!

I dunno if you all know about malamutes but she is at 63 pounds needs to get to 75 the vet said. I feed her way more than she should eat but she doesn't eat it. I leave the food out hoping she eat it. grrr..

Advice? Tried to see the other posts but someone posted one and all their posts were deleted lol

Is she truly being picky, or is something else going on?

just picky, I found out that a lot of malamutes are picky at her age. However I am hoping this is a faze. She will eat eventually but it is not until hours after I feed her.

I won't be much help either since my three will eat anything, but a friend of mine has problems with her dog eating. Mixing warm chicken broth with her dogs kibble has helped. That or a raw egg mixed in. Or some pieces of chicken. While they've all worked it's only lasted a few weeks until she got sick of it again. She's switched kibble several times also.

I'm sure that can be so frustrating!!!

I used peanut butter in Cali's kibble to get her to eat...a trick that worked better but cost more in long run is getting Mika...lol. If cali feels threatened that she might eat her food, Cali will eat hers like she is supposed to. Another trick I did for my old GSD foster to get her to eat was mix tuna in with her kibble- she loved it. Let it be known though if you keep this up then a very picky eater you might get.

good luck though

Don't leave the food out for her. Give her 5-15 minutes to eat and then take it up and try again at her next meal. Free feeding a dog can make it picky and so can too much variety so don't add anything to the food either. A healthy dog will not starve itself, just stick to your guns, be consistence and she will get the message eventually and eat.

What is wrong w TOTW? Kiara was eating it fine then kinda stopped, then I got the grizzly salmon oil and she loves it now. I also did some cottage cheese at first, she loved that as well.

I occasionally sprinkle parmesian cheese over his kibble if I want to make sure he eats that meal. Sabaka skips so many meals that I have begun to only feed him in the evening. He refuses food before about 5:00 or 6:00. He does, however, eat enough. He eats his entire daily portion in the evening.

Jasmine used to be really picky. There were times she went a day and a half without eating..maybe even two days. I was feeding TOTW at the time. I have recently switched to Grandma Lucy's and when she sees me preparing her food she literally runs to her crate to wait for it, then gobbles it up and spends several minutes licking the bowl clean when she's done! I usually throw in a small amount of raw meat of some sort. She loves it!

Sabaka sounds like Blaze he does the same thing especially in the warmer months.

Koda always does this in the warmer months at the start of the season. His energy level is lower and he is uncomfortable adjusting to the heat. We cut his food back a little and it usually does the trick. He self regulates, so once we cut back, he starts eating all the time again.

However, if she needs to gain weight, others have made some pretty good suggestions: raw egg, parmesan cheese, peanut butter, green beans, plain yogurt. All these things are healthy additives to make the dog eat but I would NOT suggest adding them every meal. Picky dogs are CREATED, not born. Wink

Erica, how old is Maggie?

Is 75lbs standard for female Mals, or is that where she should be at this point in time?

As far as being picky goes, I'd add a 2nd or 3rd to those mentioning to be patient and not giving into Maggie's eating habits.

Brewer is a "special" case to begin with, but anxiety, weather, routines or lack there of, and time away at doggy day care have all played a factor into Brewer's odd eating habits. During those stints, we have focused on giving him only 5-10min to eat his meals and providing little to no "extras". He is ~3yrs and last weighed in at 53lbs and is very healthy...

Note - We observed an increase in appetite when we started adding freeze dried / dehydrated raw foods to Brewer's kibble as a gravy of sorts.

As long as Maggie's energy levels are fine and she appears to be healthy I wouldn't worry at all.

Best of luck and I hope you start seeing some consistency sooner rather than later.

I've had very good luck with using the Stella & Chewy's freeze dried patties (mixed in with dry food) to get picky dogs to eat....(Including picky huskies that I've fostered)
