Glacious and Axel try to fight with each other and, what do ya know, Im part of an amazing forum with great people with lots of knowledge to ask advice from.

Recently I was suggested muzzles for them so they learn to be with each other without them harming each other till they are used to each other, opinions?

Are they both fixed?


If not I know with male malamutes (not sure about huskies), There is a lot of same sex aggression with 2 males. In our malamute rescue we tend not place homes of mals or huskies with same sex, just because of this issue. You can try the muzzle situation, maybe it will work for you, maybe they will be okay. You have to slowly introduce. Is food ever involved? It won't happen overnight but it can be corrected sometimes

We had two labs that were father/son that started fighting after the son matured. They we're both fixed and it still didn't help...we put them in crates RIGHT next to each other in an empty room for about two hours at a time and when they would act out we hit a cymbal. (any loud noise to break their attention) when they calmed down they were praised and given a treat. After consistently doing this for a week we moved the, from crates to leashes, just beyond reach of each other, and did the same thing with the cymbal. They figured out that being calm resulted in praise and treats...then we took one off the leash, etc and although it took a lot of time and patience they were best friends for 11 years after that.
There a probably a lot of other ways to do this....this is just something that worked for us lol.
The muzzles didn't quite help us when we tried it.

exactly why I wanted to give suggestions a try before we come to that decision, Artica Is recovering from when I got her fixed, Axel is fixed and Glacious is scheduled to be fixed on the 9th. Do you think having him fixed will help?

Most likely, he has a lot of testosterone still! So he is trying to say hey Im boss! It might not stop the fights completely but it sure help!

Ive got plenty of patience I just want to exhaust all options before anything, I ordered a heavy duty crate for Glacious thats supposed to be here in the morning and I will try out the side by side suggestion before the muzzles

Good luck!! Once he is fixed that may help a lot! I'd give him a few weeks to get his hormones in check before you will see a big difference. Who usually starts the fights?

With the neutering, it can take about a month for the extra testosterone to leave his body, so don't expect immediate results, but I think it will help, even if only a little.

He does, Ax just wants to sniff him but winds up defending himself

Yep, I think Glacious is just establishing dominance with Axe. It is more heightened when not fixed. Poor Axie!! how old is Glacious? Can you tell I have only had boy dogs my whole life except maggie? I have broke up many fights between my parents dogs, and have been bite many times.

Then once he is fixed it should get better! If it were the other way around I would be more concerned, however being as glacious isn't fixed that could be your main problem. Work with them before and after his fix though, because it won't be an overnight change.

can you try to meet in a dog park and not on home ground? also walking them around the block together as well. the neutering should help. we have a few full males that come to meets and they tend to be the trouble makers and Sierra follows them around
