| Our local siberian husky rescue is in dire need of foster homes....I'm sure other rescues all over also need foster homes for huskies, too. If you haven't considered it, please think about what a difference you can make. I wrote a blog about it a while back....about how owning a husky when I was younger lead me to the rescue several years ago....my first two fosters are now my dogs We have fostered a couple of others, too. There are so many huskies in need of a home...or at least a temp home until they find their forever homes! Here is the link to the blog if you are interested: http://harloshealthypets.blogspot.com/2011/08/how-dog-changed-my-life.html |

| I think that's why I couldn't foster... I would want to keep every single husky I brought in. It would be so sad to get attached then let them go. |

| I didn't plan on keeping the two we have, but sometimes things do go as planned. We can't afford to have a 3rd, so I guess that is why we knew we couldn't keep any other fosters. Although it is hard to let them go to their new home, it is a great feeling knowing they will have a forever home where they will be happy! I know with our rescue, we can't take in as many dogs as we'd like to take in because we don't have enough foster homes...it really is important for the rescues to have foster homes (it also helps the rescue to get more info about each dog and help them find the ideal home based on their personality / needs) - brady.law wrote:

| That was beautiful! I wanted to open up a healthy pet food place in my area too and help with rescues. I foster kittens for a local shelter. I may be getting a rescue husky tomorrow from the shelter. I think he would get adopted very easily cause he's pretty, but I'm pretty sure the wrong family would get him just based on his looks. So I may go get him tomorrow and adopt him out through my mom's rescue. _________________ -Sara |

| Thanks; glad you liked the blog / article. Unfortunately, many people get husky puppies because they are cute / good looking, but they dont' take time to do the research to see if it is the right dog for them. We all know that they don't stay small / cute puppies for long. I don't think it is any coincidence that the rescue sees a lot of dogs around 1 - 1.5 yrs of age....once they are larger, higher energy, and more difficult to handle (if you don't invest the time and energy to train them). The rescue I volunteer with has even received calls / e-mails from people who want to surrender them because they don't want to vacuum weekly / the dog sheds too much....clearly they didn't do any research to know they shed! Get a vacuum and get over it or don't get a husky. Of course, we also see plenty of shaved huskies, too....they shave them and then dump them Glad you are getting the husky and will adopt him out through a rescue that can make sure his next home is the right home and his permanent home. - SaraB wrote:

Oh I'm inclined to think most of us have that favorite waiting at the rainbow bridge, I know I do though I've loved all of them. |

[/quote] We probably can't afford a 3rd either, but whatever. We'll make it work Like I've said 100 times before. I would love to foster, but with Mya's attitude that won't be happening I got so attached to Asia so quickly because she was just so scared of everything and would follow me around the house. Plus, she's a puppy so I knew this would be the only way to get a 3rd while Mya is with us (hoping for another 10yrs with her!). I told Ivan our next dog would be a rescue so we got 2 in one. A rescue puppy Honestly, I didn't want a 3rd right now. I wanted to buy a house first and then get the 3rd, but everything happens for a reason right? |
