| Hi All. We have 2 dogs, a purebred Siberian puppy called Maya, and a 2 year old Husky x German Shepherd called Sheba. Sheba is the weirdest dog I have ever had. She is excellent at engineering! Our dogs live in-house with us, and has full access to the garden when we are at home. However, when we go out to the shops, we have to put them outside, as they trigger the house alarm. Because we have problems with dog thieves in our area, I have cordoned off a piece of the backyard for them, where they are not visible from streetlevel. I have fenced off this area, but Sheba constantly dug underneath. Because she is always by my side, she always sits quietely summing up what I am doing. To prevent the digging, I lined the area in front of the fence with branches to make it uncomfortable. A few days later we went to the shop, to find Sheba in the restricted area of the garden upon coming back. Upon inspection, I found that instead of digging from within her pen, she worked out that she could do it from the outside during the time she was given full access, ready for when we put her in the pen. She made a nice "tunnel", which was obscured by the branches, so I could not see it, and all the soil lay in a heap on the other side of the pen! I decide that would not work, so I got about 1 metres wide fencing, and lay that flat in front of the existing fence, so she could not dig. She again sat and watched me. This flat piece of fencing I cable tied to the bottom of the upright fence, so it would not move. I used about 30 cable ties in the 2m wide section I had to secure. When I came back later, she had carefully bitten off all 30 cable ties, and already had moved the flat piece away, ready for her next dig. I have yet to work out a way to secure it without building a brick wall, as every effort of mine she circumnavigates. But I love her to bits! One day while I was gardening, I was pulling out weeds and stacking them in a pile under my daughter's swing. Sheba watched, and within a few minutes, completely out of her own, started fetching the weeds from me as I was pulling them out, and stacking them on the heap. She carried on with that until I was finished. She is the dog that introduced me to Huskies, she has the look of a German Shepherd, but the personality of a Husky. She NEVER barks, and have been an excellent watchdog. She has "watched" over 3 robberies from my place already.... Now we also have Maya, a real Husky to keep her company, and already she has crept deep into our hearts as well, and now we share our double bed with 2 dogs! Here they are:
