Well I made a huge mistake a few months ago... Karas pads used to be black and kind of thick and when I started running on the trail w her for some reason going under some bridges and over some ridges over water she shuts down. Plants her feet in the assfault. I have no idea why, the first bridge we go over she's fine. The first overpass w cars we walk under she's fine but when we go to the bridges that are not even 10 feet in length over water or we go under an overpass w water sometimes she will stop and cower in fear. She loves water and the first time this was happening i was going over and under these things to desensitize her and I basically ended accidentally breaking one of her nails and basically skinning off the bottom of her paws. They were pink and the skin was raised ready to peel off. We ran a mile home and she gave no indication of being injured and took her outside for a swim and noticed blood on the tile and freaked out and ran to see what it was and noticed I ruined her feet. There as a lot of blood on the one paw I thought she lost a toe. I put some peroxide on it and let her swim around to clean it. I felt terrible and she was limping for like a week and needless to say she went to live w my aunt a couple months later and we never went back out on the trail. Now about a year later and that she is home we are back on the trail but her pads aren't as thick as they were and get a bit pinkish... I am not sure what to do, I commented on a product about dog booties a bit ago and wondering if anyone else has similar issues and how you handle it?
