Well with the idea of going snowboarding out the window with our late night on Friday and the high winds in the hills we stayed home. BUT i wanted to do something near by so i opened the maps on my phone and looked for a big lake to walk around and Barr lake came up near by. with only a $7 entrance fee it was not so bad as other state parks near by. we got a late start at 11:30 and forgot our sunscreen
we could only do half the lake as the other half is a refuge with bald eagles and such but it was still a 8 mile round trip starting at the nature center crossing the dam, hitting the you cant go farther and then turning around, thank god for the cloud cover that came half way into the "hike" as we would have ran out of water, there is only one stop for water and potty and its at the boat ramp section about 2.5miles from the nature center and thats it! it was a nice urban adventure and we did the 8 miles in 3hours with from what my tracks say we only stopped for a total of 30m. the trail is bordered by the lake on the one side and a canal on the other for the one half of it, in the summer this would be a great morning hike before the heat hits and i bet the trees in bloom will give great shade, right now there is really no shade options. i wore my hiking boots and got a nice blood blister on the bottom of my heal, time to get these feet back in hiking shape! ok on to pictures
I heard something mom....
yeah its urban
the never ending dam, filled with small bugs, if you take the lower "horse" path its nicer
Ken and Jack
Me and Sierra
i think its a crane, near our turn around point
Sierra was drawn to the horse, i dont think the horse was happy
more "urban"
water break
ahhh shade!
this was funny
i thinks this is a Eagle, damn i need a better camera!
heading back to the car
lunch at the picnic tables at the nature center
Mom, hiking makes me soooooo happy!
