| I decided to make a scrapbook since I've finally taken some pictures. I hope that I'll be able to look back at these pictures and see all of the improvements he's made. His new tag...go gators! I've started opening the porch door and he has really enjoyed sitting out there. He's so scared of the outdoors, at least he can get fresh air this way! My husband and I were watching TV and he ventured out of his crate to stare oat us a few seconds. Baby steps! After Sara and her huskies left, he paced around the apartment over 30 minutes sniffing every door and looking out every window wondering where his friends had gone...He had a blast and was just the thing to lift his spirits! This afternoon has been full of improvements, one of which is that he has jumped on and off the couch several times! |

http://www.siberrescue.com/doghouseaccept9.htm The OP can come on here and tell her story if she wishes. However, the decision was not an easy one, it was not made lightly and it was NOT made on a whim. IF the OP does come back to tell her story, I would certainly hope that the members of this forum would be open and understanding. If for any reason flaming or inappropriate comments are made, I will lock this thread and that will be that. Please don't make me do that. _________________ www.itsahuskything.com It's a husky thing... you wouldn't understand. |

| Honestly the situation kind of sucked. They were a young couple and didn't have much experience with dogs. They just wanted a nice husky to add to their family, but instead ended up with Drake. I met Drake and he is extremely timid and just stays sitting in a corner stiff most of the time. Rachel did a lot to try to get him to come out of his shell including getting a second husky, but that ended up being the tipping point for them. Koda the new husky ended up biting two people and I think that was the last straw for Rachel's husband. They finally realized they were in over their heads and made the very hard descision on giving them both back to the rescue.
Honestly I don't blame them. They didn't really know how to handle problem dogs and they both sounded like problem dogs. They are going to wait until they have their own house and are more settled down before getting another dog. Their appartment is tiny and I was really surprised that they opted to get a second dog to begin with. So hopefully Drake and Koda will find new homes with people who know how to overcome their problems. _________________ -Sara |

I'm sure whatever the reason was, she had good intentions and did in the best interest of Drake. Everyone here respects Rachel and the decisions that she makes. On my behalf, I hope all is well with her and her family and welcome Rachel back with open arms. |

| I don't know why the rescue didn't change his name to Drake too. Poor thing is going to be so confused. _________________ -Sara |

| Basically what Sara said.. The rescue has now stated that he would be best with a companion dog (prior to Rachel they said single dog only because of his issues) and they now have a more accurate description of Koda and the type of structure and pack she needs. So if anything these dogs have a good chance at finding a perfect match for them with the information Rachel has given them. _________________ Force Free Training ThreadCheyenne, Mishka, Mickey, Rodeo, & Odin Are you a Husky owner in South Florida?! | Been there done that. When I had to turn Tinola (Malamute 2010) back in it devastated me to the point I had serious doubts about my dog handling. As much as I hated the response from the rescue, "that you can't save them all" I now realize that is true.
So sorry Rachel and her husband had to be put through what I'm sure they've suffered. |

| Yep, it was a totally sucky situation! I feel really bad for Rachel. She was so upset and crying for days over this. She really tried her best, but it takes two and A LOT of time and patience. They're a young couple and all of that responsibility without being settled and not having much dog experience (huskies for that matter) was too much. She's a great person and I know she'll be an awesome doggie mom when their time is right. |
