Hi guys, I came across a youtube video and shortly after joined this meet up forum thingy and booked my pitch for this Husky Camp that is going to be help at the end of this month in Wales, UK. I asked the organiser and there are 99 confirmed Huskies that will be there and its for 3 nights!! Crazy huh??

I have only been camping a handful of times and never with any pets - could you guys just remind me of any essentials I may forget! Also, Luka will be 6 months at the camp, during the night, is it better for him to be outside next to my tent or inside with me - can he carry his own backpack at that age and is there anything I should be careful of if we go down to the beach?

-crate (not needed, but I like having one at camp)
-dog tie out
-poop bags
-water and food bowls
-water (if you're afraid new water will upset his stomach)
-dog food
-towels
-clothes and bathroom stuff for you

Not sure how they do it at their camp, but I think everyone chips in and they buy food for everyone. Sounds like it's going to be really fun! Our camp in FL only had about 20 people.

Sounds like a lot of fun. Wish I could find a camp with around 100 owners in my area!

Sara hit the basics perfectly I can't think of anything else I would need to bring with me if I were going really. I would however head over to Eddie's Post on Doggy First Aid kits.

Grab up what you can on the list that you feel you should be traveling with. If your campsites are anything like the ones by me you might be a bit far away from a vet and worse comes to worse you want to be as prepared as possible. You never know when an allergic reaction or accident will happen especially when introducing your pup to a new area.

I would say keep Luka in the tent with you at night. I know if it were mine, they'd carry on if they got left outside. Not to mention the potential for night-time visitors.

At the age of 6 months, he can probably carry some things in a back pack (food, collapsible bowls), but I wouldn't burden him with too much since he's still growing. A few websites say between 10 and 15% of the dog's weight for adult dogs. You'd probably want to condition him as well, introduce weight on his back a little bit at a time (if you haven't already) so he's not shocked.

I was thinking whether or not to bring his crate - i guess it would be useful incase i need to leave him - but then I wouldn't want to leave him on his own either :/ If the ground is soft due to the rain we have been getting lately - won't it be too easy for him to rip the stake out? the rest i think i had on my list but I'm not sure if the new water will affect his tummy, runny poop would be the last thing i want lol.

I have a basic first aid kit already which I haven't opened but I have watched loads of youtube videos on how to use the things inside I need to invest in a thermometer though!

I'll get him a backpack this weekend and let him wear it empty for a few days and start adding small bits and bobs what sort of signs if any should i look for if its getting too heavy for him? i'll probably stick to 10% of his bodyweight as a maximum anyway.

I don't have any experience with packs that are too heavy so I'm not sure what the signs would be. We didn't get backpacks until they were over a year old and full grown. I would think that if he won't or can't walk it might be too heavy (obviously if there's nothing in it, he's just being a baby ). When I go to put the pack on mine, they stretch out their backs and duck a bit...but once it's on they're good to go. If Luka's back stays concave/sway I'd say that would be another sign, but that's just guessing and my opinions...I don't know for sure.

Oh yeah, totally forgot about a first aid kit! I quickly put one together for our trip. Also you might want to print directions to the nearest emergency vet just in case anything happens. I don't know where your camp is going to be, but ours was out in the middle of no where!

I think almost everyone had their huskies sleep in the tents with them. I kept my two in their crate in the tent (I have a soft crate), so they wouldn't bother me while I was sleeping. lol. No one else brought a crate actually. I had to keep Elara in it a lot of the time, cause she kept getting wrapped up in the tie out. She's not the brightest!

Thats exactly how I felt when I saw all the meet ups on here - then, i had the amazing idea of maybe searching google to see if there is a forum in the uk lol! Wasn't expecting to find anything this huge though!
