Rio has been really good with all our animals but tonight, Drama (our fem pom) walked by her and Rio starting growling and whipping around being ugly. But literally 1o minutes later was cuddling with her on the couch...

Any ideas?!

Is it possible Rio could have been guarding something? Was there more to the whole incident? Hard to say with so little information, body language is so telling and we don't have the benefit of seeing it. But if no harm was done & they're getting along I wouldn't be too concerned.

She was layingbunder the coffee table, drama walked by to get to me and then boom Rio was on here. I picked Drama up andvwithin minites riomwas up with her,

With my newbies they all growled and bared teeth at the older pack members for at least several weeks. Not out of aggression but to tell the rest of the pack they wanted their space. To me this is just normal and I only step in if I think it's going to escalate or has gone too far. And when I asked about possible guarding that goes beyond just food and bones, it could mean anything from toys to beds to people for example...just so we're on the same page. Also, one description that wasn't very clear to me was when you said she was "whipping around being ugly"...can you be more specific? Like I said before though, it doesn't sound concerning to me from what you've said so far.

I thought that was what it might be, because she towered over her but never tried to nip her. When I say "Whipping around being ugly" I mean she whipped around like someone hit her butt and growled loud, even though Drama was no where around her. I thought maybe too that she was gaurding me, as she has been glued to my side, so I just did what i do with any attention hogs. I picked up drama, put her in my lap and then loved on Rio while Drama was in my lap.

After that, Rio just climbed up and went to sleep next to us.
