| First off it wasnt his fault my sister left her door open and she has their cage (theres two pigs) on the floor with no top on it. So he is not to blame, but he didnt KILL him right out I think he was just curious and since just a few days ago the same pig was attacked by HER dog I think maybe he had a heart attack, ax didnt hurt him it looked like he just took him out of the cage n put him on the floor, but anyways, I tried saving the guinea, I tried cpr, it worked th 1st time but 5 min later he was gone, I just feel bad for my nephew hes only 5. This wont make Ax all violent will it? |

| not violent, but you will need to keep an eye on Ax and his pray drive, im sure it would not take much force from the mouth to kill a piggie. thats to bad _________________ |

| Will it make Axel violent? It won't make him violent but I don't think it'll have any effect on his prey drive if that's what you're asking. This breed should never be trusted around prey animals regardless of how good or gentle they have been in the past.
My sibe is VERY well behaved with my guinea pigs however I know without a shadow of doubt that if the situation were just right he wouldn't hesitate to chase down my piggies. Like when we lived in WA our sibe was regularly loose with my loose guinea pig on the floor and in his bed with him. But one day we took our piggie out to a park next the the woods and our pig made a beeline for the woods. We searched and searched and couldn't find her, she knew well enough to hide and not move. Finally I decided to try taking our sibe into the woods (on lead of course) to search for her since he is very familiar with her scent. Our sibe led us right to her hiding spot immediately and gave chase until our piggie was cornered in a hollow tree branch. I held Dakota (our sibe) in position to keep Jasmine (our pig) from making a run for it. Hubby reached in the branch and pulled her out. In that moment our sibe jumped up and bit Jasmine as my husband lifted her out. Is he a different dog? Nope, still has that prey drive but knows to keep it in check under supervision in the house.
No matter what, I would still never trust Axel with prey animals. If you know your sister or any family member has a habit of leaving the door to the room with the GP cage open then I would make it your priority to know Axel's whereabouts at all times and also be checking the door on a regular basis when Axel is roaming the house. I'm hoping you don't live with your sister so that this isn't something you have to worry about all the time. _________________ |

perhaps ax should develop more of a 'pray drive' to overcome his 'prey drive' hehehe |

| My husky Lady that I had several years ago (she passed away in 2007) Killed my daughters guinea pig. It was the one and only time she ever showed any prey drive. Lady had been around them for years never showed any interest at all. One day my daughter had the piggy out in a play pen for piggys on the porch was sitting there reading we did it all the time, Lady was laying in the grass. Next thing I hear NO LADY DROP IT!!! We ran outside Lady did drop it. We brought it back in and put it back in it's cage he was still breathing but after an hour it had died. I think it had a heart attack. I will not say it was Lady's first violent out burst. When I live in Ohio I would but Lady on the back porch which had a private fence all the way around but a gap at the bottom. 2 days in a roll I came home to a dead possum. I think they were trying to get her food. |
