Well last fall i divided all my irises and i was not sure if i would get any flowers this year as the greens don't seem to be growing much but on my wondering this morning i found this little guy i also saw one more, i hope more come up later. Colorado state flower the columbine, its a great take over your garden flower as it just drops the seeds and spreads first flower back in my shade corner, also think some hostas are coming back. and i hope to have some tasty strawberries soon:) _________________

Before, start of this year, the area was still full of river rock and overgrown weeds After this weekend of working on it, now for flagstone, dirt and plants! _________________

looking for a low over growing plant? get this one! snow in summer, man has it taken over, need a few more to fill in holes but looks great in the raised bed. Iris are blooming in the front, i guess when i divided them all up the white ones ended up all in the front, oops. and the little yellow flowers i think are a form of yarrow. Columbine, another take over your garden flower if thats what your looking for. first Clematis front bed growth. i think fridays i will try to update with flower pics it there are any to post, everything has just taken off this last week! _________________

veggies veggies veggies!!!!! think its still to cold to put out yet, 44 in denver today! anyone know anything about Broom? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Broom_%28shrub%29 we are thinking about planting it in that new bed along the side of the house (pis above), doing a row of them. seems like a good option for an area i don't want to water (house/foundation) they say they are zone 5 -20 but i know all to well that for me it does not matter if they are rated for our area they might not come back and at $10 a pop at HD i want to be sure. _________________

I know its not friday but this is the other reason i stayed home yesterday! i tilled and assembled and filled with biocomp dirt, 6 wheel barrows full, so my 2nd veggie garden got done! its the one on the right. so far it only has all my spreading plants in it, zucchini, pumpkin, and gourds. and of course i came out this morning and either Sierra or Jack dug up 2 of them! must be the smell of the new dirt.... my original bed has the strawberries, parsley, grape tomatoes, basil and chives (from claudia) my bean, and cucumbers so far i also filled this up from the yard of dirt i shoveled! and just some back yard pics coral bell ( val they came back!) think Jack is peeing on my one dying mum in the front lams ear and something my miss kim lilac peony has taken over iris butterfly bush and cat mint. _________________

I think i will have plenty this yr to share! i planted 3 this year and if i can keep sierra from digging them all up we should be good. freaking girl dug out one of my blooming pumpkin plants this morning gonna kill her! guess i need to build a fence tonight.... Val, i buy a yard of biocomp dirt from a local stone/much/dirt yard (it fills the bed of kens truck!) and all the veggies are organic, i dont use anything on them, and use natural cider mulch. crossing my fingers for a good crop this year, i want to test if the dirt from last year produces as well as the new dirt for the size of the plants and the veggies. _________________

Giant zuchs are easy, just leave on the plant for 2-3 extra days. Amazes me sometimes how I could miss a 18" zucchini on the vine. I had great luck with them last year as I beat the beetles from invading.

I KNOW! i will look everyday and then its like HOW THE HELL did i miss YOU giant zucchini! i did not bother with the yellow squash this yr as i only got 1 last yr. trying peppers for a 2nd time as they will not be in the same bed as the zuchs and maybe they will have a chance to grow. im excited and hope all my seeds to plants to garden bed make it this yr as i was a but wiser then i was last. _________________ |

| I have never seen a colombine before, I didnt know of that flower at all but it looks gorgeous. Is it a bush or climber? if it climbs like clematis and honeysuckle i am SOLD.

Chris, its Colorado's state flower not a bush or a climber but a spreader, it reseeds its self every year and takes over, its a spring bloomer. i would say they get between a foot or a foot and a half high, and any where from half a foot to a foot wide. lots of colors to pick _________________
