2. Read the Stickies and Announcements. Each sub-forum may have specific rules which trump the Forum Rules in cases where there may be conflicting information. Read the rules of each board before you post so that you are clear on the expectations of the staff.
3. Respect ALL Staff and Admins. These people volunteer of their time and MUST be respected as well as their word adhered to. They are responsible for maintaining a free, open, clear and organized forum. Anyone found to be openly undermining any official ruling by a staff member will be warned.
4. Signatures: One picture only and no links. Images: To keep the forum looking neat and tidy, we ask that members insert just one picture only in their signatures. The picture should be no more than 200x500 pixels and should be of an appropriate subject, for example, your dogs and their names. Should you need assistance creating an appropriate signature, please PM an Admin and we would be happy to help! This is to ensure that signatures remain a welcome addition to our forum instead of a cumbersome distraction. Links: Hyperlinks in signatures--unless to a personal blog or photo stream of your dogs (like Flckr or Piscasa, for example)--are strictly prohibited. Please PM a staff member with any questions or concerns regarding this rule.

My sisters dog has major skin issues. She switched to grain free food and it seemed to help at first but he is back to really bad skin allergies. I know there are threads on here explaining how to narrow down the food ingredients to figure out what a dog is allergic too, but I can't seem to find them. If anyone remembers, can you copy the links to the post on here?

Thanks but there if I am remembering correctly, there is a thread that gives direction on how to start out with 1 or 2 ingredients and work your way up until you find out what is causing the allergic reaction. I'm not having luck finding it.

Sorry, I'm not remembering a specific thread about an elimination diet but it's really not hard to start out with feeding a single ingredient and slowly adding one new ingredient at a time as the dog continues to do okay on the food they are being fed. Looking for grain free limited ingredient diets can help, the fewer the ingredients the better and easier it is to pinpoint problem ingredients. Most kibbles have exhaustive lists of ingredients which is hard to figure.

I much prefer raw, freeze-dried, or dehydrated diets when trying to figure out a food allergy since they tend to have much smaller ingredient lists than most kibbles.

Is your sister sure it's a food allergy? Our dog Glory has pretty bad allergies and skin problems. Of course I assumed for the longest time that it had to be food allergies causing her skin problems. Now I am positive it is not food related because we've tried soooo many different diets with her from raw to kibble to freeze-dried/dehydrated raw. My vet now thinks Glory's allergies may be environmental so we're trying a new product now called Allergena to see if that doesn't help.

She isn't sure it's food but her vet wants to put her dog on Science Diet food. I was hoping we could try some things to see if we could eliminate the issue first before she had to give in to what the vet suggested. I just don't know enough to tell her what to try and how much to try and so forth. I thought I remember seeing some threads on here but my memory is not the best. Maybe I can talk her into taking Buddy to a holistic vet instead.
