Subject: Grrrrrrrr!!! Neighbor Rant........ Wed Feb 29, 2012 12:28 am
Let me preface this by saying that I live in a subdivision in the burbs of Augusta, not in the backwoods. My neighbors own a obnoxious rooster that has free reign on our street b/c animal control can't catch him and the neighbor keeps promising to build a coup.
So......I come home from work this afternoon and take the pups outside to go potty. We come back in and I get on the computer for about 10 mins. Montana gets up and starts to pace and whimper like she needs to go again. So I get up and leash her; this time she is on the long (25 ft) lead. I had her on this lead b/c it's starting to drizzle outside.
When we get outside she starts to pull, so I give her some slack. The next thing I know, Montana is tearing out across our front yard after the rooster! (Apparently, he was in our bushes.) I try to pull her back and "hello" the collar slips off.
So here I am, running across our yard chasing Montana, who is chasing the blasted rooster. Finally, after hollering 2 or 3 times, she stops and lays down to wait for me. I get to her and put her collar back on, give her a scolding and survey the damage. She didn't get the bugger, thank God, but managed to get 2 mouthfuls of tail feathers in the process. Needless to say, the rooster probably won't be back in our yard for a while.
I must say though that my sanity and my muscadine vine are grateful.
I guess these neighbors might qualify for the group that has to learn the hard way.

if I had issues with a annoying animal and it was in my yard, i'd have to praise her for it..lol.
I agree with you, very annoying.
And honestly, who has a rooster in a division?!?

I know it's mean, but part of me was happy she got a mouthful of tail feathers. That rooster has the bane of this street for months. I saw the neighbor this afternoon, told him what happened. Apparently, it's his weirdo wife that likes the rooster, he hates it. lol. I let him know that both of our dogs have a strong prey drive, if something like this happens again, I can't vouch for the rooster's safety. He understood.
On a side note: I'll be getting Montana a martingale next week, no more slipping out of the collar for her.

We're having issues with trashy neighbors letting cats roam everywhere so our dogs can get sick from eating their crap. Our animal control is worthless too, and ignores repeated complaints. I think we've finally cat proofed our yard, but we'll see...

Well, if animal control can't catch the rooster, Montana can

You almost completed the mission when Montana caught the tail feathers, next time just a quick chomp on the head will solve the lack of a coop problem. Some neighbors have to learn the hard way.

We used to have a rooster across the street from us, I actually miss the stupid thing.
Regardless, it stayed far away from us and our yard! lol!
her in sacramento we have a little town in the middle of the city that let chickens roam free, like tons of chickens, we call it chicken town LOL but i dont see how people could live next to it could you imagine the smell in the summer yuk
LOL Melissa! Is your back yard fenced? If that was me and my yard was fenced, I might leave the door cracked and come back later to say "who left the door open?!" Sorry I just really despise roosters right now, especially when the neighbors are stupid about it.
Well......I just got home from work and ......no rooster! Come to think of it, I didn't hear the little bugger this morning at o' dark thirty either. Maybe they got rid of it.........

It is fenced, but I didn't want them fighting over who gets the rooster! Plus, I kinda felt bad for it. Annoying as it is
it could save you a meal or two on dog food if you "accidentally" let Montana's collar slip off again
