| hello everyone. I have a few questions and concerns . My pup is about 4 months old now and recently I have been noticing problems with his urination. For the record, he eliminates outside when I bring him out and has not had an accident in the house for a while now which is wonderful....
Every night before bed, I take him out to eliminate and he does so without hassle. But recently I've noticed that every morning , he urinates all over his crate. In the past, he has been fine and was able to hold it in throughout the nite. just recently i noticed him doing it EVERY morning...this morning I woke up to his cries at 530am to find his crate soaked in urine. The majority of the nites before then yielded the same results ... This never use to happen before and its truly making me concerned ...I've read online that this might be a urinary tract infection (UTI)...but i have a feeling he is just doing this in spite of being in the crate when he wakes up.
Another example ; I took him out before I needed to leave my house. He properly eliminated outside and I placed him back in his crate without a problem . I come back home to find him sitting in his urine and I was gone for only 20 minutes . Could this truly be a medical problem? I can't see why out of nowhere he is constantly peeing in his crate ...
If you don't believe its a medical problem, what can I do to resolve this. Like a mentioned, he never use to do this and I don't know what I may be doing wrong ....i feel there is something else causing this to happen. all help and suggestions are greatly appreciated.
thank you ! |

| I would take him to the vet and rule out a UTI before anything.
If it ends up not being a UTI, start waking up in the middle of the night to give your pup a chance to go outside. 4 months old is still rather young. Restrict water access about an hour before either going to bed or time you know you're going to have to leave the house. Obviously you can't plan for simple errands but the more chances you can give him to be successful the better.
That being said i'm pretty positive it may be a UTI. _________________ Force Free Training ThreadCheyenne, Mishka, Mickey, Rodeo, & Odin Are you a Husky owner in South Florida?! Join our facebook meetup group! |

| If he's waking up in the middle of the night crying because he's peed all over himself, this doesn't sound like a dog that's doing it to spite anyone. Would you pee in your bed as a child just to spite your parents? No... it's your bed. Your safe place.
I would hands down take him to the vet. It could easily be a UTI or a bladder infection, both of which are common and unfortunately happen. Hailey just got over one and it was the same thing, at night was when we mostly noticed it.
However, like Kristina said, 4 months old is very young. I understand that he was holding it through the night before, but he SHOULD only be able to hold it about 4 hours reasonably. Restricting water access is great advice, but my first thought is infection. _________________ www.itsahuskything.com It's a husky thing... you wouldn't understand. |

| I've been thinking about this today and bladder infections/UTIs can come from holding their bladder for too long. A lot of nurses/doctors will often get UTIs and things of that nature from holding their bladder too long while working. Since he's so young and has been holding it all night until now... I think it's safe to assume that's what is going on with the little guy. _________________ Force Free Training ThreadCheyenne, Mishka, Mickey, Rodeo, & Odin Are you a Husky owner in South Florida?! | Withholding water can also cause UTI's. So, even though it's a pain to clean up the pee, I don't think you should withhold water before putting him to bed. If he's without water for about 8 hours at night plus the hour before bedtime, that's along time for a little guy. My 4 month (well, about 4.5 month now) old guy easily holds his pee all night. I would think something was wrong if he began to have accidents. Like Tori said, the poor little guy is crying because he did not want to pee in his crate. Hope you find his problem soon |

| Thank you everyone for the suggestions. i am most definitely taking him to the vet soon to get this checked out. You guys brought up really good points ...never thought holding their bladder will cause damage i just hope it gets sorted out for his sake |

| Don't worry hun, Cheyenne had one too when she was little and it took me awhile to figure out why the brat was peeing all the time! I think I was just so annoyed with all of her other *lovely* habits that I looked at the peeing as just another way she was being a pita lol _________________ Force Free Training ThreadCheyenne, Mishka, Mickey, Rodeo, & Odin Are you a Husky owner in South Florida?! | I'm having the same problem with my husky I don't get it she is 4 months old precisely and I come home to find her covered in urine and I have to give her a bath. She doesn't pee outside the kennel at all overnight or in my room, she likes to have "accidents" in the living room I have the other dogs in the house (even a 14week old puppy) trained to use bells hanging from the back door. Rouge is constantly having accidents and I try to take her out every hour. She doesn't have accidents at other people's houses just mine. I'm going to get the carpets cleaned to make sure its not an accident we didn't get cleaned up (its never the same place either???) I'm trying to reward her as much as possible for going outside. And its a TON of urine every time she goes not just spotting like an infection I'm wondering we live in a 70 degree house so I assume she is drinking a ton of water to keep cool maybe?? we have a 4 gallon water bowl and between 3 dogs they drink the whole thing every 1.5 days any advice? I'm all ears! |
