A quick question

Subject: A quick question Wed Feb 08, 2012 9:03 pm

It's been a long time since we had puppies and these are our first Huskys. My question is it normal for these guys to eat everything they get in their mouths outside in the yard? From sticks to leaves to grass always trying to eat it all. We feed them 3 times a day 3/4 to a cup at each feeding of TOTW puppy food. So I'm not thinking we are not starving them lol but they sure seem to want to eat everything in site lol. I guess I'm just wondering if this is normal for Huskys

Ah Dante did the SAME thing. That's when the "leave it" command came in handy lol. He would eat EVERYTHING on our walks, pecans, bark off trees, sticks. leaves, rocks, trash off the sidewalk......he tried to eat gum off the sidewalk too once lol.

I was just about to post this question too! Ironic! Dakota eats EVERYTHING outside. It's scary because he even tried to eat some glass today! Thank goodness I got it from his mouth. It's like every three feet eh finds something else to try and eat. Even cigarette butts! A quick question 768634

Ghost still eats everything in sight, and we have to be really vigilant. Her favorites are cigarette butts (because people think it's acceptable to throw them on the ground here) and cat poo pale

Sticks, leaves, and acorns are also fair game.

My Willow does it as well. She is much better at 1 and half years old but she still gets into stuff. She makes me a better housekeeper. Smile

Kody is about to be a year and a half and STILL does this as well! I'm constantly on top of him! He does it at home, in the yard, on walks, etc. Mya is going to 6 years old next month and she also picks up EVERYTHING on her walks Rolling Eyes

Zoey also, is almost a year and a half, and she ALWAYS has something in her mouth, she's so naughty. i'm thinking of changing her name to naughty.

There is a boxer at the park that grabs mouthfuls of grass and just spits them out. Sollie then goes behind him and plays with the clumps. Very odd (the boxer thing that is).

Axle did that when he was a young pup, but I started his training the day we got him. He'll be 3 in May and hasn't done that since he was 4 months old. People can't believe how calm and well trained he is. It's because I started him young and stayed consistent. Don't give up! One day they could try to eat something harmful.

Sierra will be 9 next month and will pick up any tissue, wraper, food, cat poo you name it she findes it on our walks. She is not a fan of grass or sticks or things like that and LEAVE IT works if its not food

Kale stopped that when he was about 5-6 months with consistent "leave it's". He still likes chewing on small logs that he carries around in the yard and still eats tiny amounts of grass, but that's about it. He wanted to carry around a plastic bag on our walk the other day, not eat it, just carry it. Silly boy Rolling Eyes

Juno and Bleeker, as pups, chewed on the corner of a wall (wife was asleep while "watching them"), tried to chew the screws out of the back deck, ended up chewing about 1 foot off of the bottom of a plank on our fence, and they just loved to take the little insulating bucket thing off of our outdoor spigots. Luckily, they have gotten tons better.

On a related note, sometime far in the future, archaeologists are going to think our property was some mass extinction site for femur bones and antlers.

Omg this is so funny, Libby was not that bad but Lucy is the devil puppy. She is sooooo naughty.
She had eaten the drywall, insulation shreded, started eating my wood plantar, a chest my dad made me. I dont know what to do with her anymore. She definately gets enough exercise, I just think she thinks it is fun.

My big issue with her is pooping inside. She can be outside for an hour and within 10 minutes of being inside she will poop in the kitchen. The guy I got her from had an area in his kitchen that was her area and I think she has been used to it, I clean the area really well, but she keeps doing it. HELP!!!!

Jill, I cant block it off at all, when you come into my house you enter into the kitchen. That is where I have her crate and food too. I have had her for about 7 weeks now and she is getting a little better but she keeps doing it. It gets so frustrating. At least that is the only place it happens, but I am at a loss. I try my best to let her out again about 10 minutes after she comes in knowing she may do it, but it all depends on if I have the extra time when getting ready, or making dinner.
I didnt think it would be this difficult to retrain her. A bad habit is hard to stop.
