Also, are the packs only held by the 2 buckles on each side, or are there straps that I am not seeing that will hold them down while in action?

There is a velcro strap on each side of the pack you can hook to the middle belly strap, it supposedly keep the packs from flapping like wings when the dog is running. I've found it pretty ineffective in this regard, and a real pain to loop around the belly strap, not to mention after a while the velcro gets clogged with dog hair. I don't bother with it anymore.

Here's a photo that shows the strap pretty clearly:

The Velcro strap is a known weakness, the new palisades addresses it. We don't use it either.

Can I ask a stupid question about harnesses. Do your huskies try to back out of them? I'm thinking of getting one for Ghost so that we can try canicross. We normally walk him on a regular collar with no problems but I wonder how he would take to a harness.

And just for fun, since there are some measurements in this thread, this is Ghost:
H - 27"
L - 32"
Girth - 31"

Very good question, and something I read a lot about before I started paying out for doggy gear. I currently only have the web master harness from Ruff Wear (part of the palisades pack), and with the built in chest and belly strap...I really don't see how Brewer is going to get himself out of the harness. Future purchases will be through Adanac (X-Back, Belt, Leads, etc).

Check this thread out: https://www.itsahuskything.com/t1742-bodhi-s-new-harness?highlight=harness

I will let the more experienced folks comment further on harness usage...

Only negative to using a harness on Brewer's runs so far, is that he a bit more aggressive when it comes to the local varmints (we have used a pinch collar in the past...). Squirrels take notice!

Oh, and Ghost is big Shocked

Thanks for that. The thread you linked to is useful too.

I already have to watch out for varmints because Ghost has tried to pull me in the ditch after them before.

And yes, he is big!

I've been looking at this too:
Canadog canicross kit

Has anyone tried it?

Ghost is slightly bigger than Storm Smile

Neither Ginger or Storm has tried to back out of their x-back harness, and neither has tried to back out of the webmaster harness that comes with the Palisades Pack.

Storm also has the same recreation harness that you got the link to for Bodhi's new harness. And Storm hasn't tried to back out of that one either.

The one that Storm has backed out of is EZYDog Chest Plate Harness. We tied him to a tree went into a store, and when we came out, he was laying down NEXT to his empty harness! affraid It's a good thing he didn't venture off!

I have the recreation harness that Bohdi has in silver. Storm doesn't use it anymore because we got him the x-back harness (the blue one he's wearing in my signature pic).

Thanks Claudia. I feel reassured!

How great of Storm to just lay down next to the ezydog harness after he backed out of it! That's awesome! (and lucky). I guess he was just telling you he didn't like it!

I didn't think he could since he was still on the heavy side!
