I use one of those Kong spray fillers that is just like those spray cheese cans. Dakota figured out how to take the top off and lick it haha. I think Hayden and Dakota would get along great
Brett- I bet they would be awesome friends! Too bad y'all are so far away and the boys can't play together
Melissa- He has gotten HUGE!!! He's really long/tall and thin haha ... He feels much heavier than what he is (26 lbs last week at the vet). I wish they didn't grow up so fast!
I'm noticing a trend of Hayden being allowed to have/chew on things that most people would not like to see their adult huskies getting into/chewing. I just hope that you keep in mind that he's learning now what is and isn't allowed/appropriate. Just so long as you're not going to be upset that he counter surfs and steals when he's older. Just as an example, I recall someone standing by and allowing Hayden to take and eat cupcakes off the counter. And then not even 3 weeks later Hayden helped himself to someones chicken dinner. Normally I'd say do what you want if you're fine with that behavior however my concern would be him ingesting something that could be potentially very harmful one day. Just my two cents. Don't get me wrong, I love the pics but can't help but be concerned.
Actually, it is really concerning for me, because I don't want him to do it, but at the same time I can't help but laugh when he does it! It's cute now while he's a puppy, but in a few month's it's not going to be so cute when an almost full grown Husky takes stuff. I took one of the ladies advise on here and got a training tool to help with the counter surfing and actually spoke to a gentleman at the dog park last night who also has Huskies about how to stop him from doing it. I'm trying to get more serious with him and need to be more strict and stop giving him his way. He's such a brat Any advise on how to stop the counter surfing??
water bottle on spray, you can hit him from a distance every time he tries to jump up. spray and then yell off, or down or no what ever you want to use
Consistency will be extremely important, if you want it to stop you'll have to stop encouraging the behavior and correcting instead. Laughing it off certainly is not going to curb bad behavior and the more he is allowed to do things the harder it will be to stop. I know it's hard looking at that puppy face but you're molding him now into the adult that he will become. I see a lot of pics of him chewing cups, licking people food, and playing with used cheese containers. How will he know the difference between what cups and food containers he is supposed to or not supposed to have in the future? My limit with human items that I let my dogs play with is plastic water bottles. But even that can be dangerous because he doesn't discriminate between empty or full or water or juice or soda bottles.
I typically don't give general training tips over the internet because there is no one size fits all method. I prefer to offer advice only when I can see a behavior in person. Others I'm sure will offer their own ideas though.
Not a bad mom at all, just susceptible to those cute puppy husky charms! At least you are thinking ahead and going to make an effort to control some of those bad behaviors before they really get out of hand...now that's a good husky mom!

I know right!!! They grow up way too fast
I haven't taken him to the vet in a couple weeks, but last time we were there he was 26 lbs, so I'm sure he's over 30 lbs now. I'm taking him this week to get micro-chipped, so I'll find out then
WOW love that mask still. and he looks sooo cute in the middle of the dalmatians

18 Weeks - Went to the park and Hayden wanted a closer look at the ducks - So he got it - I didn't get a picture of him actually "in" the water, because I freaked out and jerked him up - Shaking off - And still stalking the ducks lol - Walking through the St. Patty's day parade drying off

We use the can with pebbles in it. Kya and the cat would team up to counter surf ( the cat would push stuff to the edge and then kya would grab it and tear it open and they would both eat out of it, ESPECIALLY the bread!) so our trainer told us about the can and pebbles. You have to have several of them ,but when they are counter surfing you throw them in the general direction and the noise scares them but they never associate it with YOU.
We had to use this bc she figured out that if we weren't home or weren't in the same room, we couldn't tell her "NO". With the pebbles, we never found another opened package or missing food item.

That's great advice! Thanks for sharing. We're suddenly having a problem with counter surfing (no one's teaming up yet, that was too funny), so I think I will have to get a few cans of pebbles going.
