| I need training suggestions for mounting during play. Kale has ALWAYS done this and every dog he has done it to has cared less, it's the owners that care. I have removed him from play and redirected his attention with commands and a treat since he was 4-5 months old.. it has had no effect. I wish another dog would let him know that it is not acceptable play behavior. He plays terrific with dogs of all sizes, he just likes to mount during play Any suggestions would be GREATLY appreciated!! |

| Geez, I wish I could help. Aevyn has never done anything like that (he's usually on the receiving end when that happens. lol)
Is Kale neutered? |

| o yes, he was neutered when he turned 5 months. SOOO... I took him to the dog park just now (which is a rare occurrence) and he did GREAT! NO MOUNTING! Maybe he grew out of it? Would still like suggestions in case he does it again. |

| It's a dominance thing. I don't know that you can stop it. Sabaka and his cousin are CONSTANTLY trying to mount each other. I guess they haven't figured out who is alpha yet. However, the wonderful, sweet chocolate lab from down the street never mounts Sabaka and Sabaka never mounts him. I would surmise that they have established some ranking that only they know!
My sister-in-law freaks out and separates the two, so I think they never have had a chance to actually establish pack order. Some people can't get over thinking it's sexual... |

| Appa was a mounting fanatic, since the neutering and I think some months behind him, it's all but stopped (that we see). Maybe some "kind" dog at daycare taught him to stop? I've noticed he is far more confident in general, so maybe he doesn't need to establish pack order so much, but just rely on us to establish it? |

| Embry was never that bad with mounting, he was also neutered at 5 months old. But man this week he's been mounting Zoey constantly, I don't understand it.. |

Wow I had never thought of him gaining confidence! |

| Jack never mounts and at our meet up yesterday he was crazy over this short haired brown dog (not sure of breed) but Jack would not leave him alone, kept mounting him and then the dog would get jack off his back they would play some and then jack was mounting again, the owners were right there the whole time and did not care so i did not care and yelled at jack when i was close enough for him to hear me. this happens every few months to one dog he picks out to mount. its not an everyday or every dog park trip so i just leave it to dogs being dogs. he does not ever try to mount sierra. _________________ |

| My boy mounts occasionally, I know it's totally a dominance thing and I let the dogs work things out themselves. However if the owner of the other dog starts freaking out then I will distract and redirect his attention by whatever means necessary. My sibe is a very confident dog and I've noticed it's really mainly limited to submissive and insecure dogs that he mounts for the most part. Either way, most of the time the dogs work things out themselves without issue so I let dogs do what dogs will do. _________________ |

That's a really good point... The only dog I've seen Ghost mount was her boyfriend Caesar (who knows with that one, huh? ), but even that was when he was distracted by food. If you want submissive/insecure, I watched Lulu get mounted by my friends sweet little 5 lb Yorkie not too long ago. I laughed about til I peed myself, but then Lulu pooped on the floor _________________ Shadow's Blog Canine Hydrocephalus Support on Facebook "Being the parent of a special-needs pet means living your life constantly poised on the edge of a double-edged sword.
